E-Bay MH/HPS auctions worth it?

hey i'm looking to start a small hydro setup in a closet, 6-8 plants in buckets. aiming for 3-4' plants. light will be hung at a max of 5.5 feet.

so do any of these stand out? or are there any crappy ones i should avoid with cheap bulbs or bad ballasts?

Buy new from a good supplier, 2nd hand junk can only cause issues , get a warranty and sleep well at night................ps...i fuzzukin hate ebay!!!! Peace =)

I would say not only a good supplier, but a local one if you can.

If your ballast goes out during your grow you will need a replacement. I had one go bad and it actually took weeks to get it replaced. So I had to go local to buy a new one. What I found out was that as ballasts DO go out, that my local hydro store has LOANERS.

also i know what you mean about a local supplier for loaners, i do that for my T5 and LED setup for my coral reef tank...but local hydro and fish stores want ridiculous money for halide pendants and all, i'll check one more local shop before i order from basement.

EDIT: oh and these 600w setups will plus right into a standard 110v house appliance outlet correct?

If you buy from a local Hydro store and they have LOANER ballasts, when your ballast goes out and needs to be fixed or replaced, they let you borrow one for free. :joint::peace:

i have the same ebay setup as you posted in the first post..mine is the 1000 watt kit...they work great...and im sorry but its the same brand your gonna find in most hydro shops..i paid 290 shipped for mh hps bulbs 1000w ballast 6 in air cooled reflector hood, pulleys and a timer...my hydro shop was around 700 for everything

I bought my 250w on Ebay and haven't had a problem. If you pay with Paypal you're practically insured against anything going wrong and against it not arriving - although there's no proper warranty and a time limit of a month or so to complain and send it bay. Use the words lowbay and highbay in your search and it's quite likely you'll find one very very cheaply.

HTG supply. great customer service. great products and will stand behind them if anything should go wrong. i have dealt with them a few times so have my boys and none of us ever had any problems. have two ballasts at the moment and their great. their also very competitive on price. there on ebay as well. if your gonna spend a little bit of coin you could call and they will give you a discount. i got 10% off on a order before. top notch service

Yeah i agree..I will order another light from them soon...But i was also looking on the net and saw a ss-10 600 watt ballast for 85.00 i have the hood all i need is the bulb..Now thats a good deal on a light..

ive bought shit off ebay..new and used..ive learned my lesson..id rather spend the little extra to help support local shops and get a good better product..
