What medium did you grow your seed in?

Your plants are going to take in the nutes, which is going to drop the TDS over time, as well as when you add water. You just add some nutes to the soup as it drops. The amount you add is going to depend on many things. You'll figure out how much you need to use to bring your soup to the target tds.


I love GH Maxi Gro and Maxi Bloom! It is so easy to use, and is all you need! Follow the GH Maxi Series Recirculating Feed Chart. Very easy to use!

I used rootit cubes for germinating the seeds.

What I mean by waterline is 'I've read about 5o posts all debating wether the line should be 1" ubove or 1" below? I try ed letting the waterline drop but when I did the plants drooped?

I've also looked into the GH maxi series but being in the UK it's difficult to buy without paying a import charge?

I might just stick with DM line and get the gold range A&B flower nutes if I can't find the maxi Bloom for a good price?

I think what you may have been seeing, with regards to the water line, is the plant not getting enough water when it was small and the roots weren't long enough to get to the water. If your roots are hanging through the netpots, you can lower the water level.

s far as nutes, pick something easy and common. Don't get all technical and start mixing exotic nutes. Save that for later.

Thanks man! I'm going to keep it simple and stick with the DUTCH MASTER GOLD RANGE ' it's a 1part nutrient for flower & 1part nutrient for veg? Designed for easy use in hydro.

I did have light leak issues in my res at the start when roots were beginning to reach outside of the net pots but that's all sorted now thank God lol

Perfect! Those nutes should work as well as the Maxi.

Props on fixing light leaks! Roots don't like 'em, but slime does lol

I've also noticed how quick light leak damage can cause root rot , I only lifted the res to add water and inspect root health and within a week period of doing so It started to smell "FISHY in the tank lol
Being a noobie to dwc ' I didn't realize what I was actually smelling or even witnessing with the roots turning a off cream colour? Lol I know ,I know ' how could I have not realize what was going on? Well' I was basically overwhelmed by the whole experience of getting the grow started in the first place and didn't react in time.

I love being thrown in the deep end if I'm being honest, if I had a problem free grow 'grow after grow I wouldn't learn anything?

Nah, lifting the lid didn't cause the root rot. That wouldn't be enough to cause it. There are other reasons for root rot (Pythium), like water temps being too high, overfeeding nutes, not flushing often enough for the amount of water you have, and a couple others. Here's a good write-up on the topic.

Hydro can be complex and overwhelming at first. There are so many things to stay on top of, and there's a lot less room for error, than with soil. You're bypassing the safety buffer soil provides, and bringing nutes directly to the roots. Problems can effect plants in hydro in as little as 15 minutes! It's for this reason that you should keep everything as simple as possible so that you can learn how to run your system.

It's difficult to get any if the DM line Iver here and if you can it's marked up! I bought 5L of the GOLD RANGE ONE for veg and that only cost me £20

I've got a product that every hydro store in the UK are excited about its called SILVER BULLET ROOTS is said it can keep active for up to 5wks in your res?

I'm using it and the roots look great now and that fishy smell has gone 'Plants have got alot better

This grow has been a learning experience no doubt! but I'm on top on all the important things now and it's looking up!!!!

Also, the dilution rates are good at 4ml per 10 litres for maintaining young plants & 6ml per 10 litre's for maintaining large plants.
Doesn't state the h202 percentages though?

Yes. U top off with ph water. But u should get ec meter or ppm. I like Hanna new hydro line ec. Most everyone states uses ppm. Blue labs got good meters

But basically when u change the res. Write down the ppm.

As water Evaps typically ppm go up. So. That why use RO water to bring ppm down. If ppm lower then u start add ph nutrient.

I typically make big 3 gallon batch of nutrients and 3 gallon RO. Used for topping off. Makes life easier.

Just make sure u got no light leaks. Personally bubble system are a little temperamental. U can easily get algae or root rot. Freakin pain in ass to get. So I typically use a good recirc timer and Dos recir drip system. Less issues.

Pretty much the same speed growth wise. Issue most recirc timers you buy are freakin junk Titan ones suck.

So I made my own.

PM me. I got friend who builds them with UL parts and quality components.

A lot of this home grower timer stuff is complete trash really sad.

I just purchased a HAILEA ac 208 35LPM airpump to replace my HAILEA V20 20LPM airpump because I was "paranoid about not having enough bubble! Action so I think my res is going to be OK with 35LPM in a 70L res filled to the net pot.

These piston pumps can be loud so does anyone have a few tips in how to lower the 55dB from my 18w airpump?

After almost 2weeks I decided to go buy some liquid orca and some blackstrap molasses and see if a change of environment would do the trick?

I scrubbed every inch of grow equipment with bleach first ,then h202 4.9% silver bullet roots, then a fresh water rinse for all equipment.

I soaked the airstines in RO water for a hour with the pumps running before adding back to my system.

I added the fresh RO water 'all 50litres of it into the system and let that run for a 24hours before adding e orca + 1tsp of molassessment to 2gal of water thend added that to the res, then I added calmag 250ppm then grow nutes 300ppm

4days later my res smells worst than before ,all the roots look brown and slime little transparent jelly like stuff is in a few places around the roots? Kinda looks just like the orca in the bottle?

I have been keeping my water temp at 63f 68f but after reading some more I realised that the bacteria might not be active in colder water son raised my water temp to 70f to see if I can activate the microbes?

10ml of orca
1 tspn molasses
20ml calmag
200ml grow nutes ppm 620

Ph is rising over night from 5.6 to 7.0
The first couple days but is slowing down now to only rising by .5 in 24hours

Not sure what my next step will be?

Keep your water temps between 66 and 68, as that is the ideal range.

Your nutes might be too high. I'd flush then run straight water for a few days. How hard is your water? A little bit of chlorine can help prevent root problems by destroying some of the bad microbes. Try flushing with tap water.

You've got a lot of chemicals in the mix, and I doubt it's helping. If anything, I think you're trying to tighten a screw with everything in the toolbox, except a screwdriver. You might want to go back to the basics, then analyze the problem.

So the orca will still be active at 66f yes?
I heard they like temp's of 70f 75f?
I'm running RO with a [email protected] of 000
I add 200ppm calmag
300ppm of grow nutes
1 tspn molasses and 10ml orca
Ph 5.6

I've run the h202 route
Now the microbes route
And still shirty looking roots with a smelly res?

It's only been 3 days since introducing the orca with a little molasses so I might wait a few more days and if there isn't any progress ,ditch the res and h202 everything?

Not sure of the temps for Orca, but generally, the ideal range for the water in your system is around 66 to 68. I wouldn't purposely let your water warm up in order for an additive to work.

Not sure why you're adding the CalMag. I've never heard of it used in DWC. Not sure why you're adding molassis either. Unless your plants are displaying deficiencies in the ideal environment, they don't need anything more than grow and bloom nutes.

Again, what's the TDS in your tap water, not your RO?

My tap ec is 0.5 or 280ppm

I'm using the calm because of Def of using ro water and the nuts wasn't doing it due to the plants being "ogs and mag hungry?

I started out using tape water but was having problems and a experienced grower in here suggested using RO
