DWC resevoir size question. What happens if its too small?

I have a little extra space and I was thinking about dropping a couple healthy clones into some small DWC drink style coolers (thinking maybe 2 gallons) and putting a row of them off to the side of my light just because I dont want to toss healthy plants! What are the downsides of using small 2 gallon containers for single plants? I know I will have to keep the water filled a lot, and changes will be frequent. Anything I should watch out for other than that?

ph temp and tds, ph of 5.8 temps lower than 70 unless u use beneficials then the temp can go up to 75 and tds, varies for stage of plant growth

I would figure that if the ressy wasnt big enough the roots would outgrow it, and once that happens it could become rootbound, Im not even 50 percent sure if thats correct, but I think it is... never tried it before, I do however know that plants can become root bound in soil or soiless mediums once they outgrow the pot they are in which is why they " pot up "

Hope that helps... and please anyone else who reads this and knows the truly correct answer please chime in.... Id like a definite answer to this as well

i got to thinking about this one called a dwc bud..he has tried several times with small reservoirs , theres a good chance most of ur time will be spent pissing around with the ph and getting root bound..looks like the popular consensus eh

The main reason I would do this i that there are not any long, skinny, deep resevoirs. Basically going from a 400w to a 600w would give me about a 1x3ft strip of good light beyond my current settup. How can I fill 1x3 with 3 plants? I guess I could use a full size 10 gal res and just put all the pots over to the extreme side to take advantage of the light.

Going to give the 2 gallon containers a shot with smallish plants.

The larger the reservoir the less you gotta worry about fluctuations and filling the darn thing.... That 2 gallon reservoir would tip over due to the plant mass on top and/or you would go insane from filling it every hour of the day..... YEa, so at least you don't gotta worry about that! I hope this 2 gallon thing is temporary

View attachment 12723874x plants in my 18gal.Res Built For Hydro Setup. I personally feel anything less than 5gal.Per Plant it Effecting your Hydro Plants Yield. These Plants would cave in any Wal-Mart Rubbermaids Top. StealthHydro.com Oxyponic Set.

I run 3 per 48qt cooler, trust me these wont cave in. Im also using the stock lid. I can stand on them with plants in them if I want to.

The 2 gallon coolers were basically to fill a very long narrow space of light I have left after I put my 2 main coolers in the middle of my 600w and keep from killing off very healthy clones that I have no room for. They would be like a "secondary" grow on the outside of the light, I planned to put them a bit higher up to take advantage of the "sphere" a la a stadium grow. The other choice is 2 gallon soil container which I read is more than enough.

2 gallons seems small I'm in flower with 5 gallon sport coolers and my plants are drinking maybe 1 gallon a day so like the above posters said you will be topping off constantly ..
