I wouldnt take my water-logged roots out of water for maintenance for any time longer than 20 minutes...

Somethin just tells me that after they get used to suckin up water 24/7 they dont like being dry for a long time.

I just did my first res change, and although we had to have the plants out of water, they were only out of any kind of water for about... 5 minutes tops, that was today, and about 6 hours ago, they havent shown any signs of stress so far

*fingers crossed*

May I ask what you do for res changes? My first res change, the one I did today, was pretty awkward what with the plants not being in any water for a time.

I just have an extra res and I fill it with just plain water and let it sit in that while I'm changing the water or checking it.:peace:

its a good rule of thumb to have 2 tubs. mix your water in your new one bring it next to the other, put switch the lid to that one and then clean out the other one, so that youre alternating tubs.

if its not too heavy that is

I don't even touch the roots. I leave them in the tub. I have a pump sifon thing that hooks up to a electric drill. It has a tube on each end, I stick on end in my tub and the othter in an empty bucket. This drill pump works great, no damage to roots and easy to empty and refill in no time. You can get it at any hardware store. :peace:

i just toss in an aquarium pump and pump it out. mix new water in an auxiliary bucket then use the pump to pump it back in.
