Hey man your plants look good. Staying nice and tight under those CFLs. Nice HPS too. Is it a digital or magnetic ballast? If you can throw a MH bulb in there, your girls will love you for it. Either way, they will definitely show you some love under that 400w. If temps become an issue, you can keep the 400w backed way off at this stage. They can't really use all that light yet, but I would keep the CFLs real close still to supplement. Good luck:leaf:

Should I be worried about leaving them both running? Also, my main worry is Abby, my smaller plant, I am at day 16 and her root still has not reached water. Once Maddie, my other plant did, and she reached nutrients, she has exploded. As you can see in picture, I have cfls down real close to plants and the hps about 18 in right now. Thanks for all advice. Want to succeed on first grow.

Keep top watering them... the little girl might take a little bit to sprout roots from the net pot. I plant seeds in a tray and don't even move them to my dwc buckets until 14 days from planting. After that the roots start growing out of the net pots... some plants take longer than others. Just keep top watering until there are a decent amount of roots in your bucket.

Don't forget to make sure your buckets are light proof and water temp below 70* F. If you run benes you should be alright letting it get a little warmer, but keep buckets light proof just in case. Do you have benes? Might want to just save yourself headaches down the road and get something for benes.

Dunno about your ballast... look for sticker that has info on it or something or contact the seller and ask.

You linked the mobile phone youtube url... here is a link that works on pc:

Thanks for posting that link for me, I really want people to see and help me out. First time I have taken it this seriously and tried not to skimp on the necessary thing. I googled the light that I have and it says it is a 400w hydrofarm sunburst and that it has an internal digital ballast? Also thanks for the advice on Abby, she has really had me worried. That is exactly what I have been trying to do(top-feeding). However, since I have not ever heard of benes, I do not believe I have them. Please tell me a little about them and let me know what I should do. Also, otherwise, how do the girls look in your opinion at this stage(17 days)? Remember, I did just add the hps yesterday.

thanks again,
smokee

Aquashield or Greatwhite from the hydro store or pondzyme from petco/petsmart. There are others that work well. You just put some in your buckets every 3 days or so. They are beneficial bacteria that prevent harmful shit from getting established and over populating and sliming your roots. Most people seem to be ok if they keep water temp below 68* and 100% pure darkness but I think it's worth using them for dwc.

Digital ballast probably means you can use hps or mh and it is probably dimmable, but just google your light.

I'm gonna work on the temperature to make sure everything is perfect. Tonight I got flora micro and flora bloom so tomorrow I am changing out the water and buckets and adding all three nutrients. Should I go aggressive vegetative growth at this point? There are several different types of instructions on the bottles. Thanks for all advice. Also Abby reached water tonight, TWO ROOTS :). So tomorrow when I add fresh water and nutrients I know he is going to catch up to Maddie quick. How are my girls looking guys??

one love-

Smokee

Also does anyone have an idea of when the girls might switch to flowering? They are white widow feminized 'auto-flowering' seeds, so I wasn't sure with my set up. And whenever they do begin to show pistils, even though they are 'auto-flowering', I still want to switch to 12-12 correct?

Day 18. Changed buckets, added fresh water, new air stones, and added flora gro flora micro and a little flora bloom. My biggest girl Maddie was looking a little yellow tinted on some of her leaves. No ph burn or nothing, also she did not look dry or nothing, just a little yellower. I figured since today I added the flora micro for the first time she might be getting more mag and that that should clear that up. Is this accurate? Also the water is about as brown as could be, is this to be expected due to the color of the nutes?

advice and suggestions appreciated, thanks -smokee

Looking good so far, at least to me. Starting my first hydro grow in the coming week. Keeping an eye on your progress so I can gauge my own.

Need some advice reallllllly quick! I posted pictures below but here is the deal. My bigger girl who has been doing better, has kind of slowed on her growth and some of the leaves have turned a yellow tint. Checking the ph and everything is fine. Water was about ten degrees too warm so I went ahead and got her back down to 70. My only real worry is my littler girl Abby was growing really slow before I added them both to nutrients, now they have flip flopped.

Abby is the one who appears to be smaller but a much better green. Maddie is the bigger of the two but looking yellow. Need help!

This is Abby.

This is Maddie.

i believe the girls are about day 22/23. Few days away from cleaning buckets again.

Okay will do, gonna cut some white poster board circles to put over them. But ironically the one that is yellow, Maddie, is not the one with the black cloth. Any other ideas what could be causing this?

How strong are you feeding, and what nutes are you using? I can't remember all the thread.

Prob feed around 180ppm (0.5 scale) use some good hydro nutes. PH around 5.6 - 5.8 Water temps high 60s, good amount of bubbles and no light leaks... should be fine.

Being off on any of that shit will cause you problems, except you can get away with light leaks and higher water temps if you use a good diversity of benes.

Just can't get my temp down, and I really think that is the problem. I have begun putting ice bottles in the water but it doesn't seem to be helping that much. I am using general hydroponics flora gro, flora micro, and flora bloom. Other plant is doing so well, please help me!!
