I started my first grow with three seeds of Dutch Passion - Passion #1.
I germinated the seeds in a cup of bottled water. It took the seeds about 2 days before they started showing signs of the hulls breaking open and roots popping out from the split. I took three 16 oz clear plastic cups and filled them 3/4 full with Miracle Grow soil after drilling 3 drainage holes in the bottoms. I took a toothpick and stirred a hole in the soil about 1/4" deep, I didn't want to just stick a pencil in to avoid compacting the soil beneath. I dropped the seeds into the holes with the open end of the seed facing downward and lightly covered them with surrounding soil. The three cups were covered with clear saran wrap after a little water was added to the soil for humidity.
It took about a week but all three started showing serrated leafs popping out of the soil. Once these leaves had shown themselves the saran wrap was uncovered and all three cups were placed in a triangle shape next to each other with a single 100W equivalent CFL above them.
Fast forward after lights fell and landed on one plant burning it to a crisp killing it, and decapitating another plant, I now have three plants again.
One is about 2 feet tall receiving 16/8 , the decapitated plant is in it's own nursery receiving 24/0, and the decapitated top of the plant that's in the nursery didn't take root after a week or so, so I made another cut and am attempting to root it again. It hasn't died, it just hasn't formed roots.
I'm being told my tallest plant isn't receiving enough light, so I've adjusted my lighting a bit.
I hope this isn't my last post on this journal, if things get better I'll give updates.
