Duel Forum. HOW WILL IT WORK?

Sensible ideas only please. Then we can make a list at the end and get them into a manageable idea.

I'm a little rushed for time at the mo', hence my not being able to put any ideas forwward myself. Although I imagine everything I can think of will be thought of by you guys anyhow. Cheers.

Not a cop out, and I didn't start it all. The credit belongs to fdd and KP. Not a cop out because I have been overly busy today and I have an appointment at the gym in an hour.

Right. I suggest a whole forum, based much like the ones we have already. threads will be started, one for each competitor and maybe a mod' can drag the best bits from both into a seperate summary thread where a panel of judges (crop idol/pot idol. lol) can work some kind of scoring system. How's that? Gotta go.

okay so this should probably be its own section.. not just forum. There should be a forum for call outs/challenges, general discussion forum on who's kicking ass in the battle forum, and then a battle forum where there'll be 'grower' v 'grower' threads STICKIED at the top. The only people allowed to post in those threads will be the competitors. other wise this might get real messy

i like the idea of a mod controlled thread. we should have an open thread for discussions about the grow with posting open for everyone. then a mod can take the actual 2 competitors posts out and put them in a locked thread.

we can start with most effective method of germination.
we can start with any 10 seeds of the individuals choice.
each individual will photograph and post their method.
we will be graded on # of hatched beans and time it took to hatch them.

that will be phase #1

I'm really interested in this idea, if you couldn't already tell. I think it would also be a good idea to also consider investment vs. return as part of the contest. I know my $60 DIY 414 watt cfl light rig won't produce like a $200 hid setup, but I'm certain it'll produce several times it's cost in one harvest.

i think we should focus on who is the better grower. not so much on how the specific bud turns out but more on how the grower deals with their grow. it would be impossible to compare finished products. unless all the seeds were exactly the same. even when i get 10 of the same seeds there will always be stronger and weaker plants in the bunch.
we should focus more on how we do each aspect of the grow. who's is the most efficient. easiest to maintain. least amount of problems. how problems are handled when they do arise(this one is very important). basically, which GARDEN would you prefer. not which plant.

i feel by doing this we can keep a lot of clutter out of this competition.

Yes, yes... not much yet but we're getting somewhere. I think it'll be better to have an open thread for questions and answers like fdd' suggested and have a mod' separate what goes into the sticky.

I also like TCG's idea of the investment v return.

so what do we have so far?

Germination techniques... discovering which method is the best. This would have to be done with a variety of seeds to work out some sort of average. Full history of the mothers would need to be known. We could even things up more by buying seeds from the same company.

CFL's V HID... this is possible, although the cfl's would have to be equal in watts to the HID. Or you could do it the other way and go by electrical usage compared to yield.

HPS V MH... always been an interest of mine this one.

Outdoor V Indoor... not as crazy as it sounds. The outdoor guy grows one crop in 6 months, the indoor guy also has 6 months. Some extra ground rules would be required for this one.

Sativa V Indica... best yield.

Anyone got anything to add?

it's like a biker build off. they both build 2 completely different bikes. often 2 totally different genres. but in the end they are voted against one another.

This is an excellent idea for a forum.
There are SO many variables in growing....there is no possibility for anything approximating a scientific study of methodologies....
However, growing buds is largely a unique and individual "seat of the pants" experience...Everyone will have obvious as well as subtle differences in technique...The fun is truly in the process of "dialing in" a strain to its optimum potential.
What better way than to observe other growers with same strain in different setups....cool idea Skunky!
I'll be watching!

Well, I'm screwed now. :?

Seriously, that's a brilliant idea. How many moderators you think we can talk into being judges? Weekly pictures will be a must to make fair judgements. This will allow deficiencies and toxicities to be spotted.

Also, we may need to restrict the asking of questions during the grow and maybe restrict anybody (except moderators) from posting in the individual grow logs.

there are so many different directions this could take. so may different competitions...
18/6 vs 24/0
hydro vs soil
indoor vs outdoor
mh vs hps
indica vs sativa is not realy fair; like apples and oranges...
xxxw of hid vs xxxw of cfl
sog vs scrog (same strain)
top vs lst (same strain)
east coast vs west coast (i realy like this one; cali growers are hard to beat)
men vs women (realy realy like this one :p)
...

i have loads of ideas. however, i am limited as to which and what i can participate in; i'm sure some of you saw the thread; i cannot have lights on timers.... poses probs, and i have to brainstorm through that as is... but, i wouldn't mind being a judge/ref... a vote would be necessary for that, but i'm new, and i don't have favorites.

i'll be thinking of more competitions, and will post more in a bit.

what about a nute contest between setups that are alike? i mean there are 22,000 bubbler users on this site. matchup the group with the closest setups and then do a head to head GH, FF, AN, and organic grow.
seems like alota contest ideas should come from the newby section to answer some of the questions that are highly debaitible, so there is 1 clear answer. yall check out just about any question in the newby section and for every 1 question there are like 50 different answers. no wonder growing seems intimidating to some folks.
