Well, even though I don't believe it was a missile... here's something from the military explaining that they were indeed testing during the hours at which the object was observed.

However, with all the hooblah I've seen... I am sticking with my contrail belief, sure there may have been thousands of days where these same flights came over, but weather patterns affect contrails significantly and with the right pattern, a contrail can become so awesomely skewed that it resembles nothing that you've seen before. I think this was the case, however I'm no expert, heh...
