Hi there, dual spectrum lights are required for your plants to reach their full potential. As far as watts goes we would need to know the dimensions of your grow room.

Are you thinking Flouro's or HID's? what size area are you growing in? indica or sativa? theres a whole bunch of stuff to take into consideration before worrying about dual spectrum lamps . . . . You'll want to start with cfl's anyway, and an assortment of different spectrums a couple of inches above your vegging plants is all you'll need up until flower, then the hps/ halides are definately an advantage, dual spectrum of course, so yeah , they are quite good, worth investing in after you know how much space / plants / power you have to play with, if you intend on running HID's from the off get a digital ballast that can fire both HPS and metal halides and you'll be sorted, metal halide for vegging and high pressure sodium for flowering :)

If you decide to go HID, give a CMH bulb a good hard look. They run on HPS magnetic ballasts and produce a nice spectrum.
