Drying in the desert

I live in a very dry part of Southern California. I'm a bit concerned about drying my crop and it getting to dry to fast as a buddie of mine lost his whole crop from crunchy buds. Does anyone have this issue and how do you deal with it? if it drys in 3 days how will that affect the curing process? here are a few pix of the goods...IMAG0454.jpgIMAG0462.jpg

You really don't have a whole lot of options other than taking it with you and drying in an air conditioned space. A three day dry is not necessarily bad, especially if your outdoor buds are dense. And hey, if you need too, once home curing, you can easily remoisturize in the curing jars and get them to how you like them.

Good luck with the harvest!

Its indoor hydro, I'm going to dry them indoor as well. In a 70 degree room. Is just so damn dry..when I'm growing the room never gets over 50% humidity...lets say the bud get crunchy on the outside in 2 days should I go straight to jars???

I am in Az. My RH is never above 40% usually 30%. Everyone I know out here does 3 day hang dry. Check stems, if they snap, but don't break, and outside of buds feel dry, jar them like 10-12hrs and check, they should feel wet again on the outside. If too wet I put them on a couple cookie sheets and set them out again like 4 hrs then jar 10-12hrs check again. This is normally perfect time to start burping them. Usually will take about a week of this and their ready for cure/storage/smoke ;) of course the longer the cure usually the better they smoke. We don't know any other way down here its always dry and f-Ing hot. Works for the majority. You could always get some cheap hygrometers and just regulate the rh as described in the sticky on the harvest/curing page I think it's called perfect cure everytime. Been thinking bout trying that method to see if any benefits of regulating the numbes.

Thank you....that is the advise I was looking for...how often and for long do you burp?

I can't ever leave mine alone! Lol... I am in my jars probably more than I should be. I burp mine like2-4 times a day for 10 mins or so. If I check and they seem too moist, I will flip the lid on my jar upside down and leave it loose(this way the humidity can escape) I leave it like that for a few hours, and check again. It just depends on how quickly they are drying out. I just never let them get too dry. I will burp less frequently as they level out (once they start to re hydrate less) I will usually at about 5-7days try and roll a joint. If it stays lit and doesn't snap and sizzle, they can be put to cure/store, smoke, or whatever ;) if they start to get crunchy after a few weeks i will throw a fresh nug from the next batch in to help moisten them up. (running perpetual harvest every 3-4 weeks) so that helps too if your like me, and can't stay out of your jars all day:P lol... You seem to have a good grasp on the concepts, just use your common sense. Drying quickly does not negatively affect cure if anything i think it's helpful, because it is ready alot sooner, and after 3mos of nit picking I get a little impatient waiting to realize the fruits of my labor! Again the longer the cure the better, but drying is drying. Just keep an eye on them and you'll be fine.
