eh, exposing the plant to any light while drying decreases potency as far as I know . . .
Agreed thats why you gotta find a good shady spot ;) Where we grow you have no choice but to dry outside, and no one has ever complained about our bud :)

I'm in the same boat...I wont have as much of a yield but i dont know where i could possibly dry...Im afraid it would stink up my apartment way to much even if i put it in a closet...my buddy used to put it in a shoebox and layer it with newspapers, i hope i dont have to go that route

I don't think it's gonna reduce potency that much but i am talking out my ass since i've never done it. just basing it off how they harvest for hash in morocco they leave it sitting on rooftops to dry and i hear they have some top quality hash

Light and heat technically do degrade MJ but not nearly as much as most people think.

Any place that gets even reflected sunlight will cause bleaching. On a couple of occasions I've had to dry plants in a greenhouse. The quality suffered a bit.

You might consider getting a bunch of large cardboard boxes. Run string back and forth inside, a few inches from the top. Hang the buds inside and poke a few holes in the sides. Stack them under shelter outdoors where the air is fresh, or in a large indoor space.

I helped a friend do this with eighteen pounds of buds. He stacked them high in his warehouse. The buds cured beautifully.

If you do this, be prepared to open the boxes daily for the first two weeks.

dude I wish I had a warehouse that I could dry in that'd make this so much easier. I might try digging a huge pit in the ground and putting the buds in cardboard boxes in there and covering the hole with a camo tarp under some leaves and shit. That'd be a lot of work but it's the only way I can think of that would create a place of dry shelter in the woods that would not pique the curiosity of a passerby. I'll probably dry some in my house (whatever I can get away with), some in a couple friends' houses, and some outside, either in a tent or in this hole idea. I like the thought of renting a u haul but I don't know where I'd legally and inconspicuously park it for like a month while thie whole harvest dries in stages. By spreading it around I won't risk the entire crop if one of the methods goes wrong. Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep em comin!

As good of an idea as it may sound to dry weed in a Uhaul, there could be problems.

First, it's gonna cost you. Even if you rent a normal size van to dry it, it's gonna cost $30-$40/day at least. Multiply that by the bare minimum of 5-7 days, and you're looking at the very least $150.

Second, the terpenes in the weed are gonna stink up the inside of the van/truck badly. I'm not sure what it'll take to clean it, but be prepared to scrub the wall and interior of said truck for at least a few hours to remove the smell. Do you really want to take the chance that the Uhaul people could smell the truck/van on check-in, and realize that something illegal might have been going on? Who wants that kind of possible heat?

Third, the smell while drying could attract attention. If you park the van/truck near a driveway where no one comes near it, you'd maybe be ok. But if you park the vehicle in a shared parking lot with others, a van of smelly drying weed could possibly arise suspicion.

I don't wanna be some buzz kill on your idea, because honestly, I'm in the same predicament in not being able to dry my weed indoors at home.

I'm gonna be drying it under a tarp, outdoors, with string tied between two trees. I'll be threading the string through cardboard boxes with holes cut in the side, to improve airflow.

I'm only gonna be doing this for less than a week, then I'll be curing in bags and then jars after that, airing out multi-daily.

I hope you dry your weed without renting a Uhaul or some rental container. Doing time is worse than you can believe.

I have a broken down van on my property that I use, fwiw. The last two years I've used cardboard boxes with two pieces of kite string strung through them and just hang the buds in the boxes, stack the boxes in the van, and when they're done in the boxes I final trim and put 'em in the jars. Worked wonderfully for me, so maybe there's something to the U-haul scenario.

how about pulling a semi just into the woods, off a main road but not too far, and hanging them in a nice 53' trailer! sorry, i could'nt help myself. not trying to be a dick but you have to think outside the box sometimes with this stuff. we really are limited (depending on our situation), to what we can do, i know. always a risk of some sort it seems.
