drying and curing what are the ins and out

im looking for help with drying and curing recently i toke down my first planti hung it up to dry for 4 days and it came out so dry i can crumble it on my fingers and it was really loose and see threw its jack herer and the smell is really earthy smells and taste fine , should i have dried in a dark room with ventilation or maybe build a box to hang dry with a fan and small hole can someone please help

probably harvested too early.
 
i had that thought as i didnt have my digi scope and now based on his sister her triclomes arent quite cloudly yet either but im going on month 4 of jack herer auto flower i didnt expect a 4 month grow

Always dry and cure in a dark room/area and some light ventilation is preferred. What was the temp and humidity in your drying room for the 4 days? If you don't have one of these, you should get one for about $10 @ Home Depot and keep a log with several measurements throughout the day as you dry.

Thin buds and colas dry MUCH faster than big fat colas. If it was 75 degrees+ and dry in your drying room AND you have thin buds/colas, that would explain how you over dried. Ideally you want to shoot for 60 - 70 degrees and approx 50 - 60% relative humidity.

Your humidity was way too low, you need to bring humidity up to 60 percent or so and dry them way longer. Good luck
