Dry ice can react pretty violently if water is added to it. If you just put your dry ice in a container with some holes in it that is all you need to do to add CO2.

Depends on how quickly it melts. That's gonna depend on how hot it is in your room and what kind of container you've got it in.

I'm actually thinking of doing this myself. I was thinking of using a styrofoam cooler and putting some holes in it so the CO2 will evaporate out of it and it's only partially insulated. That way it won't evaporate too fast. Do some experimenting and post another thread and let us know what you find. BTW, welcom to RIU.

Yeah, and you may also do yourself a favor, by reading up on it. I don't know how large 'a large chunk of dry ice' is, but a) plants can only utilize CO2 up to certain levels, and b) in an enclosed space and without adequate knowledge, you could easily reach CO2 levels that could become fatal within minutes.
Although CO2 is typically referred to as a non-poisenous gas, that is not true if you reach high levels - like 20% CO2. it's not the lack of oxygen that kills you, but CO2 poisoning.

Anyway, something to keep in mind, as grow-rooms sometimes are small and relatively air tight - it can be quite dangerous, not to mention that you could ruin your plants more easily than doing yourself in.

It takes a lot of dry ice to reach dangerous levels of CO2.
