Dry Ice Hash. First Attempt!

Today I made dry ice hash with the trimmings from the AK-47 & Pineapple Exp. harvest last week.

So lets make some hash...

Started with 6 lbs of dry ice. About $8 worth and had plenty left over. This is about 3 lbs.


Here is the 160 micron bag and the frozen trimmings from two plants of AK-47. I also have trimmmings (two plants) of Pineapple Express. No fan leaves were used.


In case you want to know. Amazon had a five bag kit for $29.


What the AK-47 looks like in the bag before shake.


Then I just shake for up to five minutes. I moved after 2.5 minutes to another spot on table. This would give me one that was more pure than the other.


Starts to build up fast.


Here is a good pic of how thick it gets.


So this is AK-47 with first couple minutes on right (lighter gold) and the left, last couple minutes (greenish color)


Same process on the Pineapple Express trimmings.


So there ya go! My first attempt at dry-ice hash.

why did you buy bubblebags..knockoffs...and not just make ice water hash instead? the hash i come out with is soooo blonde and way more pure than yours since you can then go a step further and remove most of that green, not knockin it, it will be great to smoke just dont get why you chose to spend money on ice when you can use your own and get a purer product with what you already bought using a different method

just wondering why dont mean to bust your balls..their are many ways to make hash and i was just seeing if their were some reasons to do this method that i dont know about since you have the means to make bubble and still chose not to..

lol now i feel bad for saying mine is more pure...ive only made bubble a couple times im no pro and dont claim to be thats why i clicked on the thread in the first place just getting other opinions on other methods

I don't smoke the stuff. Just didn't want to waste it by throwing it away.

5 minutes and $8 bucks for dry ice seems like a small investment to get the trichs off the leaves, ya know?

See kermit's post up there giving me shit? ... I'm doing it all wrong and have knockoff bags, who cares.

Just in it for the buds. Not going to spend all day on hash, ridiculous.

Don't feel bad. I know what you meant. I'm just not a hash aficionado, yet. Just want it out of my freezer. It's all good.

looks like i got my posts in first lol..so ya im not giving you shit on purpose just wondering your logic when you bought bags instead of making a cheap screen and i only threw in the part where i said knockoffs so someone didnt come and chime in that those arent bubblebags..i too have just started the hash making recently so i guess i assume people must know something i dont!

hey thats good a reason as any! its just the method you tried im not gonna hate on that answer lol..i was thinking maybe it had to do with yield as the bubble doesnt yield the best for trim but does good if you use dry material imo so far..

I watched Cervantes' video on making hash and got tired and bored, lol. Told myself I'm not going to go through all that for something that doesn't matter to me.

The bags were cheap (not thermal sealed like better quality). Just wanted the 160 and 220 because I saw the guys over at Wacky bags using them with the dry ice method.

Worked fine for my purposes, again, I'm not a hash user. Just wanted the trimmings out of freezer and didn't want my popcicles smelling of mj, or do I? :-o

Prosperian, you are my hero! You're doing everything I plan to do, but (1) the right way and (2) ahead of me (though your light set-up has mine beat hands down). Since finding out that my plant is female (and she's actually budding now!!!), I've been looking into hash-making methods for the trim. I assume you have, but if not, I'd suggest you check out Matt Rize's stuff on here and youtube. Super interesting.

Curious, though, but do you plan to decarbonize (or whatever) the hash, and if so, what's your planned method?

Anyway, I don't really have the means, room or energy to do the full-on ice water hash, so I'm planning to do the dry ice thing too. A couple more months, and I hope to be there. But, again, watching your grow/harvest/cure/hash-making, and following your posts/questions has been a great experience! Cheers, my friend, and happy smoking!

well ya if your not smoking it anyway why go through the extra 30 mins of work and maybe slightly more messiness..i only make it to smoke so for me the whole process is kind of fun to see what ill get each time because its always a little different. i watched the subcool tutorial and matt rizes tutorial and between the two i made up my own one gallon method kind of taking a few tips from each. the main reason i had decided to go with the bubble in the first place though was so it was in pieces not just loose kief..i know someone who would take the dry ice hash or harvested kief and just smash it in a vice and apparently it would turn black and he claims it was so much better than mine...i believe this is the only way to make a "piece" out of your hash and is also like the decarboxylation by using an oven...anyone know any more about this and if it does actually make a better product? matt rizes opinion in his vid is he doesnt like to do it but people say it gets you higher and it very well may..thats what he said lol

oh btw he would first wrap it in wax paper he said before smooshing it down and he said you could hear it all popping and it would then turn black.

Thanks, if I can help you and keep you going, well then that's great!

"Plan to decarbonize" To be honest, I haven't got that far and don't have a clue what that is. Lol. I just put it on some parchment paper and folded it up and into a sealed jar. Guess I better do some more reading and watch a couple videos. Obviously, I'm not experienced at this and didn't intend to slam kermit. He is always very helpful.

I really thought I'd take a couple of pics and show everyone what I was up to. I'm also building a pine derbie car for my neice today, but I figure I didn't have to post those pics.
