Dry and liquid nutrient combo

Hey,
ok so I’ve been using fox farm liquid nutrients for my past few grows and it’s been good but for my next one I want to try to follow Mr Canucks feeding plan. He uses Gaia green 4-4-4 and 2-8-4 dry nutrients. Those are super hard to find where I live so I think I’m gonna use the Down to Earth organic 4-4-4 dry nutrients but I can’t seem to find another 2-8-4 dry fertilizer. Can I use the 4-4-4 dry fertilizer with the 2-8-4 fox farm liquid fertilizer?
Thanks for the help!

You can...but it’s generally better not to mix base nutrients from different brands/types unless you have a specific need or purpose.

Dr Earth makes good products Bud and Bloom is 3-9-4, its been my base nute for years.
And I've been experimenting with Agricolas 4-8-4 Mineral Super Fertlizer with good results.
I've mixed the two with no problems.

I have been using dry and liquid for some time. Avoid adding synthetic liquids during veg. Other than true organics. Kelp or Fish emulsion. Second week of flower start adding liquid and raise PPM until you see the leaf tips start to curl downwards. Then back off 100PPM for a week and try again. PH has been best at 5.8-6.4 for me. And it mattered.

I'm also interested in coco and dry fertilizer after seeing Mr Canucks grow. I bought some Down To Earth Bio-Live and All Purpose to go with some castings and perlite. The numbers are different than the Gaia Green but I was recommend these by my LGS. What did you end up going with?

Mixing dry and liquid is not a good idea as the dry is a slow release fert. The liquid is concentrate. You'll find that you'll build up to much salt and run into lockout. Remember that mixing liquid nutrients you need to watch for ppm and pH. If you're in Coco like mr. Canuck he uses a 6.5 to 6.8 where as soil requires a 6.8 to 7. Slow release ferts leach over time to allow the plant to use it when fresh water is applied. Over time it will absorb the nutrients as needed. Your best bet with mixing liquid and dry amendments are buy creating teas to create a living medium.

I have to rebuke your post. I have always used liquid and dry together in coco/soil mixes. It requires experience and proper soil mixes. But it is far more productive than either alone. You must learn to read your plants. Then you know how far you can push without harm. And certain ferts are safer for the practice. But generally speaking you should use one or the other until you can read your plants. Once you can and learn to push the plants, you will be amazed. 001.jpg

Your PH suggestions are high as well. Soil should be 5.8- 6.4 Ph until flower. Then 6.2- 6.8 during. And bounce within that range for best nutrient availability. I don;t care what the organic guys say. With mixed dry and wet in organic living soil this has proven most productive over 6-7 years of experimenting with side by side grows.
