Dry and crispy leaves in veg week 5

Hey guys,

Back with yet another grow. Last time, i made 3 fatal errors.

Firstly, i over fed my ladies with a high concentration of FFM which led to mass toxicity in the flowering stage. Secondly, I kept them in 1 gallon pots which i believe limited their ability to grow and may have led to root rot. Lastly, i neglected to perform any type of training and this led to a significant drop in the potential yield.

This time around, I aim to do things right. I'm in my fifth week of veg. Transported all my ladies into 1 or 3 gallon pots. I've started training them all from an early age.

5 weeks into veg. Avg RH: 35-55% Avg Temp 75-80 degrees. I'm using a single BestA 1200 watt LED lamp at 27" above canopy. 4x4 grow tent. Kept good air intake + exhaust and fan blowing on LEDs. PH remains at a consistent 7 from runoff. Used ocean forest potting soil (haven't added fert till the 5th week).

3 major problems

1) Some leaves are way too dry and appear crispy to the touch (started on 2/6 plants week 2).

2) Slow growth compared with previous grows (may be attributed to the lack of feed).

3) Some leaves are bleaching on edges and on top center of leaf.

Any feedback on those 3 issues would be much obliged. Pics attached.

Too much light. Not heat.

"If in doubt, keep LEDs further away – It's very common for cannabis growers to believe that as long as the temperature is under control they can keep LED grow lights as close as they want. Unfortunately this is not true. Although LED grow lights run cool, the LEDs available today give off an intense amount of light which is great for yields, but can give your plants light burn if kept too close.

The reason this can be such a problem with LEDs is it can take a few weeks before your plant really starts to show symptoms. Usually the upper leaves are affected first (yellowing or turning brown or spots) by too-close LEDs, but symptoms can also affect other parts of the plant.

Makes sense since the leaves seem to get scorched on my last grow. According to the LEDs manufacturers manual, the light needs to be 24" for it to get approx 529 Par Value. Im no expert though, would keeping it at that height be ok or would raising it to 27"+ sound about right?

Appreciate the feedback.

Go high. Way high and watch them a week. Every grow a learning experience. I'm almost 69 and there's always something to learn.

Watch. If it resolves you know that's it. If not lower away but it doesn't look soil or nutrient related.

Il try that and see how it goes. I wouldnt be suprised if that was the issue all along.

Hey guys, quick updates with pics:

Crispy dryness has reduced substantially by raising the LED lamp to approx 36".

A Major Problem (NEW): the leaves appear weak and have an outter yellowing which is developing towards the inside of the leaf.(Nitrogen defeciency ?)

Feed Overview:
  • Week 7 of veg
  • Soil base
  • Ph of soil 7
  • Mainly water only feed
  • Included 1 tbsp/ gallon of grow big from fox farm in only 3 feeds so far.
  • LED 1200 watt light
  • Ladies dry out in 4-5 days
  • 3 gallon pots (x5) 1 gallon pots (x2)
Any thoughts?
