Doing a little germination test

So, I germinated 3 seeds in water for 24 hours. Then I put them into soil with the small taproot facing down. How long normally will it take to sprout if planted 1/4 inch down?
I don't know the strain, the guy I got the seeds from didn't know...
And I also planted 3 seeds without soaking them. I'm trying to determine which will sprout faster. So, about how long should it take for a little sprout to poke though?
Patience is key, but I want to get this thing vegging soon! xD

Not a problem. I was loosing to many seeds going the paper towel route. I found an artical here laying out the benefits to planting in soil. Tried it and had no problems. I've never a 100% germination before , I always loose at least one. I'm gonna stick with this technique

Yeah, me starting out I lost so many seeds. Like at least 15. It was crazy. So, I'm thinking just planting it in soil as nature intended is the best route to go. God, I'm so excited! Once I see that first sprout, I'm gonna party xD

2-3 days to break through is spot on. I still germinate using the paper towel method, and get near 100% success. I use a heating pad, fold a towel on top of it, add a dinner plate, put three sheets of paper towel on the plate, place seeds on towels, add two more sheets on top, moisten all, add a plate on top (to seal moisture) then pop a final towel over the whole thing.

Within two days, always have nice tap roots coming out, then add to soil. Another two days, and you have the little beauties sprouting up.
