100 ft from a well used trail is not to far. go further.
No kidding. That's way too close. Keep in mind, you're not just going to stick some seeds in the ground in May and then come back and cut 'em down in October. You're going to need to spend time working with your plants; checking them for insects, fertilizing them, maybe watering them, checking for sex, checking them in the fall to see how close they are to harvest, etc. It only takes one person out for a jog and seeing you inspecting some plant to blow the whole thing. You're much better off planting someplace where you can not be seen from the trail, because you never know when someone's going to come along. I've had it happen when planting near railroad tracks way out in the boonies; bird watchers pick the strangest places to go trucking along. I'd go a little farther in.
