Does topping promote overall growth?

I have 2 plants, topped one cause the top got damaged by bugs, since then at every branch there is now a new set of leaves growing. and none of this on the other plant. Is this the result from topping, should i top the other one too?

leave 1 topped and the other 1 normal and compare both, topping gives you 2 colas instead of the one, alot of ppl think that you get more yield by doing this and then theres people that say if you top you lose yield because with 1 cola you get a nice big fat nug, :D

You can usually see the growth tips on the nodes of the tip(s) you cut. In some ways you'll make the plant bushier, other ways it can get top heavy/imbalanced.

It does not mean more bud.
