I plant on elevated hill sides facing south. There needs to be a low spot for cold air to settle. It will be warmer the higher up. I also plant in thickets or honey suckle. It blocks wind and traps warmth from the ground.
Not pots in cold weather. Plant directly in the ground. Good thick layer of straw around the plant and stalk.
Those steps will help to about the temps you are going to get. Even had tropical sativas handle those temps.
You would be surprised how hard a freeze they can take.
How fast they warm back up makes a huge difference.
