Does anyone think the world is going downhill?

I cant help but think lately how dumb everything is getting. I turned on the TV today, which I rarely do, and all I saw was shit, shit and more shit. I have cable and checked what was on MTV and all these stupid reality TV shows were lined up. Parental Control, Date my Mom, Rock of Love, Tila Tequila, Double shot at love, My Super Sweet 16 (basically glorifies spoilt rich kids that get supercars for their birthdays, and throw parties worth millions of dollars for people they barely know and the people they throw them dont give a shit about and just come for the freebies)and some other bullshit.

It pissed me off because I hate ALL of those shows. The acting is rediculous. The scripts are so bad I could feel brain cells dying. My sister watches these stupid shows all day long sometimes. Just completely zones out in the garbage.

The music that tops our charts comes from the likes of Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, Tpain, Akon, Flo Rida (I actually used to like Akon, but now he just flat out sucks balls) etc.

It got me thinking about a whole lot of other stuff too. Why do primary school kids all have cellphones? why do they need Ipods? most of them got a nintendo or something shoved in there too. Most of us didn't have shit lol. And if we did, we probably earned it in some way because our guardians didn't think they were "necessary".

When I was a kid (admittedly, i wasn't the coolest kid), I was into mechanics and electronics and things like that. I would spend hours trying to put some Knex and lego pieces together and make a motorized roller coaster or something. What do kids play with now? magnetix? Where is the creativity and patience gone?

Has anyone seen Gran Torino? You see how his Granddaughter acts on the day of her Grandmothers funeral? Thats what I get reminded of. I would never disrespect the deceased like that or even talk to an elederly person in such a way.

Im only 18, but I KNOW there is a huge difference between me and just the slightly younger up to the ages of 15.

Is morality going downhill? What about intellegence? Are the younger ones in our generation non-functional with technology? What do you guys think?

yes and yes morality and intelligence has both gone out the window. its all part of the socialization of the world, its hard to rule over good morally strong people with good principals.

Ja, each generation does say the same thing,
and then each generation has to face war as a consequence.

The human race follows cycles, and the downside is the result of the general stupidity of the general population.
This recession/depression that has been going on for the last 6 months or so probably does not
effect most young people ... yet

Look at the way people just expected house prices do go up forever.
They borrowed far more than the value of the house,
and now owe more than their assets are worth.

The govts think that by printing money (they call this quantitive easing)
they are going to help the situation.

Actually the young people are going to have hell to pay
unless something drastic is done to stop the stupidity.

Keep following your train of thought 9mm,
don't just stop thinking about it,

read and understand all you can about all you can.
Don't stop questioning why it is that people are the way they are.

Yes my parents said the same thing about other kids also.I was raised with morales,i was taught what is right and what is wrong.Kids do not evolve,parents become too busy doing their own thing and let their kids do what they want.I see it with my freinds and neighbors kids,parents out getting drunk and partying while the kids do what ever they want.And they wonder why the kids drink and get into trouble.
I blame it on the break up of the family,when the young people moved to the cities to make more money.They do not have the support that i had when growing up.When i was growing up,when mom and dad worked we where watched by our grandparents.We did not get away with anything and where taught how to act or else.Now kids act up and all they get is some lip service with no discipline to teach them the proper way to conduct themselves.
Anyone who says that there is nothing wrong with the way the world is going is part of the problem.Deny it all you want,if you are not doing something to change things,you are helping them get worse.OPH

Sorry OPH, I don't see it that way...I also don't know any kids that behave the way you are describing. Why? Because I don't allow those kinds of people in my life. My job here on this planet is to hold accountability for MY children, no one elses! So no I am NOT a part of the problem, I am one who didn't raise my children the way you describe. And HELL NO I am not going to make positive changes for other peoples kids....It is all about ACCOUNTABILTY and I hold mine....not yours.

I was not making the statement that you are a bad parent,my comment was not directed at you.And good on you for being a responsible parent.
You must not get out much if you do not know of any kids like that.They are everywhere.I have a family that lives down the road from me,with seven kids.On the first day of school this year they all stood out at the bus stop and fingered and cussed everyone who came by,including the youngest girl of three.
You say you are accountable for no one but your own kids.When you see a freind of your child doing wrong while playing with your child, do you bring it to their attention or do you let it pass.You are accountable,your actions or inaction is seen by your children.Hey if they get away with it why not us.That is the type of thinking that has this world in the shape it is in.No one wants to be responsible for anything anymore.OPH

OPH, again and this time I will stress it to you. I take accountability for MY children, not yours or anyone elses....If every parent would own up to some accountability for their own maybe this world would be a little better.
As far as seeing a child misbehaving while at play with my children, why of course I do something about it! Why? Because it effects MY children. If it doesn't effect me or mine, then feel free to do what you want. I wasn't put on this earth to be a mother to the million of children that need one. I am here to do my job as a mother to my children, that is called responsibility with accountability thrown in...

alright, after having a self-revelatory night last night, its funny that this thread should be here.

i agree, comends on being 18 and figuring this out man, it took me till i was just turning 21, coming to the conclusion that society's ideas,principles,moral stature, knowledge will never represent me. i will never count on fitting in or feel disappointed if i remain a solimander because just knowing who i am is enough.

Yeah, I think the world is definitely turning into a scary place... mostly because the masses are so uneducated and are happy to be that way. The stranglehold religion has on the USA in particular is also very worrying. The fundamentalist Christians in this country will lead us all to hell.

i do agree b/c sometimes i feel the same way,
i may juss be high but i think its just a part of growing up and maturing...i mean the generation before us said the same thing, and the generation before them and so on....
and i can guarantee you the, kids you are talking about will say the same thing when they get our age. just a part of life
