@Singlemalt I totally understand getting upset if a piece of meat comes back 2 times. At that point, its obvious the customer has different standards and expectations than the kitchen, just give them what they want and be done with it. Don't let it get under your skin too much.

We were kids( high school) and just voluntarily hanging out; we loved that place. Everyone was character, even the regular customers; kinda like a real life pre-Seinfeld show. If we were bored on weekends or had school breaks we'd work for a few hours in the kitchen or storeroom just for the fuck of it cuz it was fun and we'd get fed fucking prime beef. I learned about meat cooking from Ricardo, seriously this cat was a god.

Ya I must confess that I'd be happier working in the back but I can work in the front and make as much money in half the time (providing we are actually somewhat busy). That's the only thing that keeps me from switching to BOH.

Hey I appreciate your honesty. I can tell you that most places have to cater their style to a very broad group of people, meaning that stuff that is supposed to be spicy is dialed down and stuff that is supposed to be well seasoned is dialed down because not all senior citizens can take it that way. These are the chain restaurants and are probably where you've found your most disappointing meals (and service too). Also, MUCH of the food (in the USA at least) comes frozen. If you order a chicken fried steak oftentimes it comes frozen and then thrown into a deep fryer only to have instant gravy sloshed across the top. Want to get fresh fries/chips? Ask for fries that aren't salted, they'll have to make them fresh. Then you can just salt them at your leisure from the comfort of your table

unless youre head chef there isnt any money BOH.. i dont do it anymore but i served food at a couple places until i started bartending.. i never worked at a chain place though, every where i worked was pretty high end.. tips were always awesome. but waiting tables doesnt compare to bar tips.. and the perks that come from working behind a bar lol (drinks, girls, drugs) its good fun money, but that that industry wears you out. the hours are crazy.. and its a dead end job really, unless you buy the place you work at lol. im back to my original trade now and making way more in way less hours and have way less hangovers

Find out what kind of courses your local community college offers and sign up for one that has a career because waiting tables and the service industry is not going to cut it in life. Learn how to weld, repair cars, construction etc. There are so many fields out there where you can make a decent living if you sacrifice a little now and get educated.

Great thread. I'm a space provider for events. We do lots of weddings. Just this week I had a customer complain to my boss about me being rude at an event a few months ago. I didn't remember anything out of the ordinary, so I looked back at the paper work. My note to the boss said the bride's mother was a little upset due to the hurricane recovery effort going on in the back parking lot, and I had gave them a 45 dollar break to smooth the waters. I remembered her then. She was a loud redneck bitch who was hopping mad the second she was in my office. I just ask her is she had heard we had a hurricane. But it's rare for me to have mad or bad customers. Most folks are happy when they are going to a party.

Been bartender for a few years while studying. It's a fun job most of the times, but not easy at all. I generally enjoy working with people but as everyone in this industry, I had tons of dipshits coming to the bar. Among all the stupid things people asked me over the years, all the aggressive drunks, generally annoying people etc, that one thing that was almost making me lose my temper were people coming to me complaining that their drink doesn't taste right even though I knew I gave them exactly what they ordered. One of them was a lady who was drinking one particular rum all night and she came back complaining at one point that I gave her whiskey instead of rum... She got exactly the same drink from the same bottle of rum she was drinking all night and suddenly it tasted like whiskey? After that night, every time she came back and ordered her rum, she said something like "just make sure it's rum and not whiskey this time will you?" ... This woman was really making me lose my s*it.
