Does algea spread from infected roots?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but Ive been having a constantly algea battle with ONE of my bubble buckets. Water temps are low and i even wrapped the whole thing in mylar to see if that would help (the bucket was black to begin with) I cant see any visible light light leaks, the only thing I HAVNT done is cut the infected roots from when it first got algea. Can this be the source of my problem?

I'd say yes. The whole system needs sterilizing with some h2o2.
