Does a grow room cost alot to run ?

Does it show up a considerable amount on the electric bill ? The higher watt your bulb the more electric you use , What watt is your bulb ?

when i had an indoor garden my bill was an extra $75 a month running a 1000 12/12 and 400 at 18/6 plus all the fans and other gadgets.

ooh shit thats quite noticeable then. All i was thinking of doing is turning my built in wardrobe into a small grow box. I would only be wanting to grow 2 plants at a time. so maybe i could get away with 2 125 watt lights + gadgets like you say. hopefully mine wouldent be so high.

small grow cost was about 40.00 extra a month 1-400w hps "12/12" 2-100w 3-40w cfl's "24/7" along with 3 fans. That's about the same as adding a big tv to your house.

Stumps i dont want to seem like im arguing here but , i doubt i would need 3 fans in a grow room the size of my wardrobe.

He might mean one exhaust fan, one intake fan and one fan for inside to ciculate air. Which u will need to have healthy plants.

You can do a small closet grow with cfl's only and fans, as long as you keep it 3 or less plants. If you're worried about the spike in the electric bill tipping someone off, replace about 8 lightbulbs in your house with cfl's. If not then just skip the hps if you're only doing a small grow, cfl's run cooler and won't take as much ventilation as well.

Intake fans are useless. I wish people would understand this. Suction from the exhaust fan + a tight sealed tent/grow room = negative pressure. Which eliminates the need for an intake fan..

Also, adding 1 400w isn't going to tip off any power company in the world. Who's to say you didn't install a jacuzzi tub or a bigger water heater or a billion other things that use more power. Unless you're pulling 3,000 watts per hour extra. I wouldn't worry about it. My set up cost about $550 total and like 15 extra a month in power.

Sorry I was just telling you what I had set up, and cost. I had two rooms going. vegging with cfl's and flowering with hps. I was runnig two air mover fans and two inline fans in the hps cool tube.Guess I don't have any of the cool tube set up.

Lee6- I have run for 12 months a 400w HPS and at least 125~250w for 18 hours a day and its made almost no diff well £10 a month MAXIMUM! dont forget in UK with our whether some people get warm fan blowers which use 1500w an hour.....electricity company dont care.....i have in last few months upped my stakes to 600w SL HPS and 250W CFL and its around £15 per month.....however i did run the 400W and 600w in my old house and we kept getting power outages when the HPS started up so ive had to curtail it down purely cos i live in old house...Only for that reason....u got more chance of being caught either Gobbing off about what ya doin or Smell from ya grow....

I've got a 600watt light and an independent window unit a powerful exhaust fan and during the hottest summer in 30 years around here my electric bill I got yesterday was $272.00 I am a happy camper.

My computer has a 1000w power supply. A new freezer, a dishwasher, a large flat screen is gonna cause that kind of increase. I ran (When I grew at the house) 2 1Ks, 2 400s, with the associated fans, dehumidifiers and A/Cs. It raised my bill about $100. Nobody batted an eye. When I moved to my shop and really ramped things up with 4 1Ks, 6 400s, T-5s and the other fans and A/Cs, it bumped my power bill by about $200. People tend to think that their power usage is being monitored and it just isn't. With a 400w light and the associated hardware, you'll have less an increase than you would if you bought a new freezer or big flat screen.

I agree wiith a 100%. An intake fan is not needed when running on negative pressure, but when I originally set up my mini grow with my 180cffm, the temps stayed almost 90 degrees. I tried to hookin up my 300cfm to see how much that would help and the temps only dropped by 1-2 . So I had a 8in booster fan laying around and just thought I would try it out as intake just for the fuck of it.

And guess what? When I installed the 8in booster as an intake and put my 180 cfm exhaust back in the temps stayed at 83 and below! (With 400w n aerogarden) . So from my experience an intake fan does help. Before installing the intake I had 2 4in diameter holes just working on negative pressure.

Oh yeah my electric bill didn't go over 20 extra a month n that's with a 400w,aerogarden and other fans n shit

As long as you pay ur bill ur electric company doesn't give a shit cuz they're makin mullah. At our old collective grow we used to pay over 1200 a month and this was only a 2 bed room townhouse kinda thing on top and a 2 car garage on the bottom. Never had issues with the electric company or anything.

and ours id say is using 3-6 gpb per day (full house hold i mean) weras befor a tenner would do a week
