Do you like my tent set up

300w Vivosun led
150w sun system hps
1x clip fan
2x2 tent
half fox farm ocean forest
half happy frog
Temp. 74-80 f
Humidity. 34-38%

one of my seedlings had the seed casing stuck on it for the first 2 days and now the first true leaves are coming in with white/yellow tips?? Water was ph tested. 5.7. Let me know what you think of the set up.. I wanna put the hps closer but it’s so damn hot it puts my temps in the low 90s.. I think I found the sweet spot w my current spot about 20 inches away.image.jpgimage.jpg

You are probably going to roast those seedlings. Either one of those lights by itself would be plenty at this stage.
The 150hps would be fine by itself start to finish.
I don’t think I would yield mich if I used only the 150 watt hps.. my goal is at least a quarter pound dry. And could I really roast them with the lights over 20” away?

That seedling has no need for all that light. You are only making it more difficult for it to grow.
That vivosun by itself would be plenty. Even a cfl would do the trick

Okay, I really appreciate the input! I’ll switch out the led and the hps with 2x 24 watt t5’s. I also have a 3x3 tent that I will move the led and hps too for when the plants become more sturdy.

Update!
so I just left the led light in there as you can see in the pictureS lol.
I also threw out one of the seedlings and added two pineapple chunk seeds to the lineup.
I decided togrow four plants at a time because from what I’ve researched in a 3x3 tent the best thing is four 5 gallon pots.. I have four gallon smart pots already and Im going to buy 5 gallons and compare the size difference. I also want to try 7 gallons in the future maybe.
my run off ph was low at 5.0-5.5 despite flushing with water up to 8.0 ph!! So I’m going to try some dole mite lime. It’s only in the first two pots because I tried happy frog soil and I guess it has a very low ph. I mixed it w ocean forest which I’ve used before.. but the two pineapple chunks are in 100% ocean forest so ther run off ph was closer to 6.0-63.
Another thing I’m going to do is buy another 300w led.. that would give me 600w for my 3x3 flower tent, and 200w for my 2x2 veg tent. ( I have the 150w hps and two 24w t5s) does this sound sufficient. I keep hearing 65watts per sq ft. But then I heard 65watts per sq ft of canopy?? Anyways I’ll keep posting updates and I really appreciate any help and feel free to start a nice healthy discussion or something educational to growing.

Testing runoff in soil is a waste of time according to some very smart dudes.

Make sure your water is ph`d and dont worry about whats coming out the bottom.

When they are babies like this, they dont need much of anything( light or nutes) so go easy on both. When i grew in FFOF my girls went 35-40+ days before needing nutrients, FFOF is fairly hot out of the bag. Also you should be gradually spreading out the water in your pots now, allow the roots to search and sprawl outwards. Once they are a little bigger you can start applying the wet/dry/lift technique. Bascially you soak the pot so you get about 15-20% runoff and then you leave it alone until it starts to feel light and drying out. Then you soak it again. This will give the roots the much needed oxygen they are looking for and will also defend against salt buildup.

Best of luck, keep it simple

Looks OK. 4 plants in that space looks tight to me I got 2 going in twice the space. What size pots are you going use as that will restrict the final size of plant

I’m definitely going to do some research on the run off ph theory. I’m not a horticulture major or anything but run off ph seems necessary to me, I really appreciate you pointing this out to me again, I can’t wait to do the research. Do you have any links? And I also know FFOF to be hot which is why I tried to mix in some happy frog but that stuffs even worse!!

It looks tight because they’re in a 2x2 tent. They will move to the 3x3 as they get bigger. I have 4 4gallon smart pots, I plan to buy 2 5 gallon pots and compare the size difference.. possibly even 7gallons in The future

Nah unfortunately i cant link an article or anything, just going off what some of the top growers around here have stated. It could all be broscience lol i dunno

@Renfro is much smarter than I , i think he could probably give you some reasoning. Hes one of the best around here.

Heck on the flip side, theres many growers around here who will also tell you that you dont need to PH your water when in some soils. I always ph every drop of water my plants get. Your gonna read alot of differing opinions around here, some will state them as facts, others as just old school ways or whatever, half the battle of being new is deciphering between whats legit info and what isnt, who to listen to and follow their grows and who to ignore....Its a hornets nest out there lol

Best of luck

You might want to look at adding a humidifier to the tent. Seedlings like humidity....ideally 40-60 percent. I like your setup....good luck.

also imho it looks like that fan is fairly big and pointed directly at the little babies. Personally would not blast my babies like that until a little bigger. Maybe point the fan across above them if it's needed to regulate light temp.

you’re probably going to need more light in the 3x3. 2 Vivosun 300s is only 270 watts of actual output. The recommendation for quality leds, full spectrum, is 30 watts per sqft. So more with the Vivosun.

Would a spider farm sf2000 be overkill in the 3x3 by itself? I could just use the 300w vivosun for the 2x2 veg tent

Always check your runoff. It may not be an accurate reading of the rootzone, but it will indicate high/low pH/ec. I find it's best to use a small sample of the last drips that run through the medium. If you use use the entire runoff much of which may pass quickly around the edges of the container and not interact much with the actual medium. Will be more diluted and lean more towards the original source.
