Over the years I have had those myself.
2 times in particular that were dangerous.
The 1st time I was on the highway driving. I had a friend in passenger seat (lifesaver).
I was smoking a blunt. I started coughing and then everything went black. I had myeyes open and could not see a dang thing but complete blackness. I think that I had cut off the oxygen to my brain. I told passenger to grab the wheel. Seemed like 2-3 minutes but it was only like 20 seconds.

This happened one other time as well. I was on the way to this bar that I was bartending at. I was about halfway thru a blunt and I started coughing.
I lost my vision again. This really scarred me since I was driving by myself this time.
All I could do was slow down to a crawl and pull over.
2 more feet I would have ran into a pole.
I have never heard it called a brown out though.
When this happened to me before everything went black all the lights in my view turned into little points of light (looked like stars) then they traced and disappeared into the blackness.

Yeah, I sware thats the same thing that happens to me, only it's mroe often and less extreme. I get them while driving sometimes too. Only, i usually wind up being able to see through two small blob-like holes, it doesn't make it all go completley black, and if it does, it's only for a couple of seconds.
