Do stems get thicker in the 12/12 phase?

stems get thicker the entire life of your plant....
whether it's the branch stems or the main stem....

If what you are getting at is that your stalks or stems are on the skinny side, I've found that the slightest movement provided by fans ( even small ones) make a big difference in the development of your plants stem structure.

they get a lot thicker. i use some grow feed throughout the plant's life periodically to help with strong growth, strong branches and the like.

two main things i know to bring thick stems are fans and genetics
me personally know of nutin else then comes supports for heavy buds an thin stems
