This plant is about 3 weeks old. Im not sure what the couple black spots are it doesnt look like slime up close it seems more like dirt or something just got on the roots.

Looks like the beginning of the dreaded black slime. Treat it now with a compost tea. What temp is your water?

yeah your starting to get the bad stuff. cut all that brown root off, check you water temps ASAP and cut your nutes back a lil, also check your pump and air stone may not be aerating the water enough. hope this helps

and also that styrofoam around the water looks dirty and old. Main thing about dwc is cleanliness if you setup is clean your good.

As for res temps im not sure exactly i need a water thermometer

Problem is i have little to no cash right now, im going to be trying to sell some excess stuff as it is to get supplies for this.

Whats the best thing I can do on a VERY limited budget.

Alright so far ive covered the hydroton with foil and added 8 drops of bleach per gallon to my res. Hopefully this helps a bit :/

Atleast tilll i get the cash for the tea

You guys would freak if you saw my roots.. they're soo stained by my nutes.

You need to take into account the possibility of nute staining.. but it only occurs with certain nutrient lines (most organics..)

Yeah.. I was kind thinking it was just from the nutes. The GH micro makes the water red as hell but the above posts kinda freaked me out.

And to anwser your question because I dont have the money for anything else.

I read a huge ass thread of numerous people saying it helped them get rid of slime and caused no damage. I figured id give it a try, id make the tea if i had the money for it.

GH micro shouldn't stain your roots brown/black if it's red.

My organic solution is a heavy brown goo.. which stains the roots appropriately.

If anything I'd expect your roots to be tinged red.. so unfortunately the coloring on your roots is probably pythium =/

Sorry.. h202 that sh!t

Some people seem to think it kills pythium and whiten roots..

Both half true..
wouldn't dream of sticking BLEACH in my buckets, maybe when i cleaning them and rinse them threw good and proper, but not were my roots are no way!!!
