Not like led.HIDs are dimmable

I have both... It feels like a win,win to me!!!Keep us updated on that light, curious to see how it does. I am going with the Mars Hydro fc4800 just because I don't have to put it together like the spider farmer but they look to be pretty equal in regards to specs.
I didn't know thatLEDs get more efficient as they're dimmed
HIDs get even less efficient when dimmed
True, they also maintain the superior spectrum.I didn't know that
BUT man HID are cheap...you can get them for next to nothing in your trader papers. An LED using around 450 true watts would blow away a 600 HID. You'd probably never run it at full power. And using a bar style you'll get far better coverage than with HID.
The Board and Bar white or white+ lights can be had now for under a dollar a watt which makes them economical enough for anyone to make the switch now. Look for quality components and you’re good to go. Generally, about 60 watts will replace 100 HPS watts. No bulbs.BUT man HID are cheap...you can get them for next to nothing in your trader papers.
I kept my XXL buster and setup just in case, I need to heat the house.
i run 2500 watts of boards and cobs...my 1k HPS is on a shelf. The Board and Bar white or white+ lights can be had now for under a dollar a watt which makes them economical enough for anyone to make the switch now. what i found most interesting between LED/HID and dimming is spectrum changes. to my understanding, LED spectrum doesnt change when dimmed, just the intensity of it. HID spectrum does change when dimmed though.LEDs get more efficient as they're dimmed

So turning lights up to 100% isn't necessary? Just overkill basically?True, they also maintain the superior spectrum.
That's what I love about those lights is the color they put out... Was always fascinated by that... But all I ever did was burn my plants up,but that was almost 22 years ago when I didn't know anything about growing... I still don't, I just fake it real good!!!I do sometimes get nostalgic for that 2000k Orange HPS glow!
Agree 100%What do you mean by "if heat is no issue?
Anything i save with led gets lost on electricity to heat the place, i ended up buying more lights for heat as running a heater with lights on doesn't sit right with me.
If you live in warm climate i would expect led is win win+ but it's not that straightforward in colder/damp climates if you want to maintain ideal parameters, or it's not for me.
Eta... When led is dialed its superior imo.
Try running it that close horizontally. I'm pretty sure I can run my boards closer to canopy than that if I run them verticallyHow can you get leds closer without bleaching the canopy?
i need a minimum of 18" with my 240w whereas my 600/660ww hps can go 11-12" from the canopy.View attachment 5075951
