Do I need to move lights a little further away?

I'm doing a lowryder #1 again and it's at day 15. It's pretty short but it has small fan leaves (3 leaves each)... I'm using cfls.

Anyways it wasn't growing upwards much.... Just the leaves were getting bigger. I moved the lights up a tiny bit hoping to stretch her a little so she will be taller.

Good idea or bad idea?

Bad idea. cfls never give you enough light anyway so they need to be as close as possible. I'd say there is another reason why your plant isn't growing.

They are probably an inch and a half away maybe 2.

Just so you know I'm in a pc grow box so space is limited... How close can the lights be without burning?

yea up the bulb or keep the bulb as close as you are inch or two away be patient your plant might just be a slow grower will soon have a spout
i havent grown from a seed for a while now always use my clones but they norm stay small for little while then get a grow spert on

You should move the lights as close as possible without burning your plants. And how will you know that?
Just place you hand right on top of your plants. If you feel comfortable then so are your plants.

yea im also growing using cfl's and i finally got a couple of big bulbs to go with my little 27 watters... i agree its prolly just your plant starting off a little slow... just keep the cfl's close and keep an eye on it bc theyll grow right into the light before you realize it...

Mine are actually 27 watts for some reaso I think I said 23.

And okay good I stuck my hand on top and it didn't feel like I was burning.. I'll check tomorrow and see what happens. Hopefully she likes the closer lights :D

I grow with CFLs and my plants are almost touching. Like a hairs breadth away and they don't burn. Of course I have the luxury of being to adjust several times a day but trust me your not gonna burn your plants with CFLs very easily. That being said if you have the money and space treat yourself to an HPS. Even a 250w will do you wonders.

I wouldnt get any closer than 2", it isnt unusual for a plant to grow an inch or more a day. If they touch the bulb it will burn the leave, not a big problem just looks like heck.... I honestly dont know how you would push enough air through that tiny cabinet to suck all that heat put out by a 250w HPS, Id stick with just the CFL's

All CLF bulbs are not the same, there is ZERO QA. So one bulb is not even close to the next. The only way to stop heat stress (light bleaching) or burning is to WATCH. CLFs put off little heat, but you can still “Light burn” you leaves.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm going to see what happens today and if nothing happens I think my lights are good for now!
