Do I need the red does hps Emerson ?

I have been growing with hlg led lights and with bridgelux strip pannels

and haven’t lookedback at hps in years and Neil I did a grow with mixed led and hps just now and noticed that with the hps I had a lot more bud development on the hps side

the led side however has more Shorter buds it seems that the hps caused the stems to elongate a bit

I liked that as the buds was so fat on the led side I got mould on a few but the hps was more spaced out ?? I wouldn’t say yield was better on the hps side and had a lil stress but I liked the hps crossover effect

my guess is it was the extra red spectrum on the hps of course so I want to replace my hps with my other led panel but to get this effect do I need more 660 nm leds ?? Or 730 emmersion effect ? Does the hps add the Emerson effect ??

sounds like you have too much blue in your led spectrum for the particular cultivar you are growing.

you are not getting any emerson effect from the hps, nor will it have more red than your led lights. hps is predominantly yellow/orange.

Hps has much less blue than (most) leds so in effect the light is redder/warmer.
yer of course the hps has less blue and there is no doubt that the lack of blue light in the hps spectrum is allowing the reder end of the spectrum to dominate causing elongation. but most led spectrums have a lot of red, more than sodiums its just they also have a huge spike of blue(too much) which puts the brakes on the stretch.

Everything you described could be from temperature and not the type of light. If the temps were higher the LED side would have flowers more like the hps side. At least with most plants.

So your saying the direct heat is responsible for it ?

It could be due to spectrum. Both the far-red/red ratio (roughly 600-699 nm and 700-799 nm) and the green/blue (500-599 and 400-499) cause elongation/shade avoidance if the ratio is high. HPS has little blue and a lot of far red.

But as you said, yield is not necessarily impacted.

Take spectrum or source of the light out of equation. the same cutting grown at day/night of 79f/70f and compare to same cutting grown at 86f/79f. They will have a very different flower morphology. far red/red ratio, amount of blue does have an effect but day/night temp can change flower shape more in my experience.
In other words if you want the LED flowers to look more like the hps side raise the temps under LED.

Raise the temps hmm yeah now I think I notice a difference the hps side is no way near as terpy
So I’d conclude some terps evap under the heat
I’ll keep my stocky hard indica lookin sativa buds lol n keep 26c other room hps was 28 -30

Where they different strains or clones? One of my LEDs, a ts1000 which notoriously had a lot of blue in the spectrum, was over a plant that stretched like hell. I think it was due to genetics and not necessarily the light.
