Do I need a fan or can I just use bamboo sticks?

I have a simple set up. I'm running a powerful 6" fan with a large carbon filter and drawing air through the lights and out the exhaust. When I turn it on, I feel a lot of cool air circulating through the grow chamber.

My grow chamber is 4' x 4' x 6.5' and it sits in a climate controlled room. I don't think I'm going to be worried about the heat from a 600 W HPS.

However do I need another fan at plant level to cycle air on the plants? I heard this makes them stronger. How should I run this fan?...all the time...or do I need a timer for it? I've also heard I can get these super cheap bamboo sticks from the grow store...

Any ideas?

I prefer to circulate air all the time, its good for the plant in more ways thatn one. makes them stronger, increases growth rate, and prevents moisture build up to lessen chances of mold

Ive had a setup without a fan before and had no problems, I found that having a fan in a small grow space, constantly baffling the plants did more damage than good. AK47ws right in saying that it prevents moisture build up but generally speaking that shouldnt be a problem under a 600 watter.

i have a 6inch clip on fan going all the time and it does no harm what so ever....i think it helps them alot....makes the stems nice and strong to hold heavy bud...

Cool...I'm thinking about buying one of those 40" tower fans from Walmart for $50. It looks like it will be less bulky than a standard fan, but it still oscillates.

your space is similar in size to mine i built mine from wood and i bought a piece of 1/2inch pvc and some plumbers tape (the metal stuff with holes in it) and cut some of that to screw to the bottom and top of the pvc to make a pole like to adjust the heeight of the clip on fan...if this makes sence

amrcngror--I don't think I"m going to get that fancy :-) I'm just going to buy the tower and hope for the best. Cool idea though!

I have 16 square feet (4' x 4')...I was going to aim for 9- 3 gal pots...you said 4-6, maybe I have the wrong idea. I was going to grow the plants small and employ a Sea of Green type approach. The old man at the grow store in code told me that 9 plants in that space is very doable. In the past I had 3 rows of 10 short (30 plants total) plants spaced a few inches apart and they did fine.

Haha--no I already have a climate controlled room. I also already have a fan to channel heat generated by the lights out of the grow room. The air circulates quite a bit with this light heat exhaust system. I didn't know if I needed more fans to move the plants and circulate the air down below or if I could just make do with bamboo to support the plants when they get heavy.

ive got a duct pulling air into the room from the rest of the house, keeps it 75-80 in there no problem. Im not sure how well it will do when i drop in my 400w mh tomorrow :o
