Do I Have The Right Supplies?

well the seeds that i'm using are from some old buds I had. the buds looked nothing extraordinary, just normal weed. (average joe, didn't have crystals nor orange hairs) each bud had 2-3 seeds, and i saved about 12 seeds. but the problem is they've been in a dresser in storage for 4 months. (if those seeds will not work then I can get some new ones)

i have a closet, that is i'd say 7 Ft. long and maybe 2 1/2 Ft. wide that I will be growing in. i don't have the exact specs on my light, but it's two 5 Ft. Fluorescent Tubes. It looks like a really decent growing light.

what i will be planting in is a round 1x1, 1.5 Ft. deep planter. how many seeds should i put in one of those planters?

now i don't have soil, so what kind of soil should i get? can i go to a Home Depot or a Pet Store and pick up some Really dark, soft, moist soil? (would that be best)

seeds are the best most important investment you can make. good weed is born, not grown, so buy some new seeds from reputable seed bank. you need a pre-mixed soil that's light and airy. that planter could hold 1 big flowered plant only and those fluro tubes are 40watts each, thay could be used in vegging but to flower you would need more light. what's the height in that dresser? if you intend on making use of that whole space, and assuming you have enough height, you need 2x400watt HPS lights side by side and get like 12 planters to fill up that area, you need a good exhaust fan and proably a dehumidifier and a few more toys in later stages. you also need to read and ask a lot to get it right. if you cannot do that, it's not worth the effort. please don't do the mistake and try flowering with the current lighting, it'[s just a lost effort

But I have a friend who has grown with the same exact lights, he's actually the person I get most of my stuff from and it is pretty healthy good stuff. And I only plan on planting maybe 2 or 3 seeds at a time. I'd say the closet is 8-9 Ft Tall.

dude, whatever area you want to grow in, you need 50watts/sq.ft of HPS light in FLOWERING. you can veg with these fluros.

First, your seeds really determine the whole budget to your project. If your strain's genetics are able to grow frosty ass bud, your gonna wanna spend more money on your grow. If its some bagseed, then its just a low budget project.

For bagseed I would honestly use nothing but cheap ferts and or soil for the grow. Since soil usually tastes better then hydro why not?
I'd go down to my local hydro shop and pick up a 20liter bag of foxfarms oceans forest or something similar or better. Since your growing from seed i'd get a couple of rockwool cubes to put the sprout in and or germinate(then plant 30days later into soil, to prevent nute burn).

Before you get soil look for some 3gal(good for 12/12 from seed) planters or 5gal(good for medium sized planted 3-4foot).
Try to find some planter trays too, so you don't get water run off in your closet.
Then get a fan, this is a must for every grow. The stronger honestly the better(the plant stems will strengthen faster and you'll have less humidity and that means you won't get bud rot).

So soil, pots, runoff trays, and a fan.
I would buy a mister aswell, just for some extra tlc during the veg stage.
Also, since your using fluorescents and they're not that strong find how whats the maximum you want your plants height to be, I would probably try to max them out at 2feet with floros.

If your getting more expensive seeds you can change your soil around, if you use hydrotone, coco coir, perlite/peatmoss, perlite/vermiculite then you would get getting faster grows with better harvests but you would be replacing the taste you get when you grow in soil.
If your using a soilless medium(which is hydro) you would need a line up of nutes, ranging anywhere from 50bucks to 150. Some like to get multiple brand lines so they spend more then most.
If your doing hydro, then a PH meter is a must. Those range anywhere from 10bucks at walmart for the pool testing strips that change color, to electronic meters priced at about 120$.
Also since your strain is capable of much more and it starts smelling dank as heck thats when exhuast fans and carbon filters start being needed.
And since your investing so much you might as well get an A/C, dehumidifier/humidified.
Lights are a big then too. You might be able to grow 2-3good sized plants with a 150watt, with a 400watt you can grow good sized plants if your scrogging.


Most soil doesn't need nutes because you'll get nute burn, but I think the hydro shops sell guano tea on concentrate(not sure).

I'd say my seeds are in the middle of those 2. And I'm going to have 160$ to work with. Seems like that's plenty to get all I need. Right?

I did a grow of 2 ak-47s in miracle grow soil with alittle perlite and some cfl's about 8 and I bought every thing for less than $100.00 and got half oz from each plant dried It's better to go cheap until you are ready and want to keep doing it then you can buy more and more expensive and all the stuff you buy now you can use then,but if you spend a whole lot and you get discourage then you got to sell everything and believe you won't get even close to what you paid,but you can use what you got to grow some vegtables for the table.(lol)

Yeah, you mentioned you stored your seeds 4 for months. As as they weren't wet, then dried, then wet, then dried they should be fine. Best conditions are in a weed jar, or baggy imo.

Make sure you get good soil, thats basically what will make the flavor of your bud. If your not boing to buy lights I would invest 50-70$ on soil easily(even 100$ to mix my own soil). You'll need a good premix that looks something fluffy dirt, if you see little time release balls in it(for instance miracle grow) you might run into problems. The problem with miracle grow is that it has the potiential to kill your plants if you over water them with nute burns, also if your harvestion before the said "Feeds for 3/6months," then you have a chance of your bud tasting really bad.

I would get Foxfarms Big bud aswell for a soil grow. Its an organic bud booster, it basically adds time to the plants budding cycle and make it produce more thc in the the last two or three weeks. Thats an other 20bucks.

The soilmix you want to shoot for is anything organic, I would suggest the hydro shops for the best organic soils.

I told you earlier that I would only use cheap soil for the seeds you got, but thats because I would have my main grow inside my room.
Since its your main grow just get some dank fert, maybe you'll get a good pheno that could pump out resin if grown right. Honestly the best bud I've had diddn't have hairs, so try not to think too badly about that hairless weed.

Alright. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get ahold of that Soil you were talking about, I made a couple calls to some stores near me and they said they had it. Now all I gotta do is wait ;d Now as a kind of off-topic question, with the watering and light cycle I want to water it ?once ?twice a day? or just when it looks dry. And I know about the 12 hour on, 12 hour off light cycle simulating the Equinox, am I going to want to do that?
