I believe they make HPS as high as 4200k, but i can't tell if thats marketing or not.. HPS emits more of the spectrum, at a higher intensity, than the commercial LEDs I'm aware of
This isn't to say LEDs are bad, just that they target specific wavelengths using diodes. HPS have a broader range (of mostly useless yellow light) making them closer to the sun.

Being that I'd hang hps much higher above canopy then my led bars, physically hps is closer to the sun.
