DIY with Quantum Boards

Go with the HLG 550. I dropped over eight bills on mine with a discount not too long ago (was that labor day?). Anywho, this light has so far performed WAY beyond my expectations. It is a true 1000w HID replacement. Straight up. I have mine in a 3x3 text over a two plant scrog running a cut of Ancient OG which I have grown under CXB3590, Vero 29 Gen 7, and Citizen CLU058 lights. These quantum boards are a massive leap forward over cobs in my opinion. The only way cobs would rival it is to have a large array of them dimmed way down (I'm thinking about Timber's $1,000+ framework models here). My HLG 550 is dimmed all the way down and the two plants underneath are the bushiest, hardiest plants I have grown to date in any previous grow, that includes hps. I'm three weeks into flower and absolutely killing it with this light.

I was skepical of the quantums at first, but holy fvck do these babies throw down a sh!tton of light!! Max setting is like staring into the damn sun. You will be surprised by quantum boards, believe me!

The pictures in this thread has convinced me to go QB instead of COB.

My question now is:

HLG 550 vs 2 units of HLG 320w XL QB kit

HLG550 = 515 watts = $1049
2 x HLG320 = 640 watts = $1000

HLG550 has the 304 boards.
HLG320 uses 288 boards.

I don't know anything about those boards or efficiency so what do you guys suggest?
I would DIY but all the components are out of stock.
Yeah there is some nice BUD porn in this thread

the HLG550 is a prebuilt with 4 boards

you refer to a HLG320 but I think you mean 320W XL QB LED KIT
https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/diy/products/320w-xl-qb-led-kit

so 2 of those is 6 boards which is what I would have gotten if it was available when I got mine. I purchased 2x 260W QB LED KIT

so prebuilt with 4 boards $1049.00 or 2 320w XL QB led kit w/ 6 boards $900.00, as for 288 or 304 boards get whichever you can get

steve and robin usually announce on here 2-3 weeks b4 components are in stock

as for assembling a diy kit its extremely easy and in my opinion the DIY kits are your best value.

I would plan on 45-90 days before a restock of QBs. I dont know for sure so dont hold me to that, but it seems to be a good estimate. Have your email set up to notify you of a restock. I think they sold out in under 20 minutes last time.

This stock will be much bigger. We will have more in about 2 weeks and then again more in 2 weeks after that.

So long as packages arrive on time, im planning on beginning light fabrication today.

I have a 320h-c1400b

I planned on wiring my 2 QB 304s in parallel.

I have 100k pot to wire in as well.

I just wanted to make sure that since i bought this driver to run 4 QBs, that im not going to fry the 2 i was able to get. Im always so nervous i might let the smoke out things.

So im good to wire two 304s in parallel to said driver with the pot?
Plug it in and turn it on and im good to go?
Is there a number on my KW meter i need to stay away from as i turn the pot up and down?

Yes, I meant the 320 XL QB LED KIT that has three 288 boards for $450. Two of these kits will be $900 and I will have 6 quantum boards for 640 watts.

The HLG550 is 515 watts but costs $1050 with only 4 quantum boards.

According to my noob logic, it seems that buying 2 of the 320w kits would be better than buying the HLG550.

Can more ppl confirm and comment on this for me? It's for my 5x5 tent.

:peace: OK. - but what`s wrong with half prices ??

o_O:rolleyes:
So you admit to freely copying someone else's work, then? Again, only a scumbag would come into someone else's thread just to advertise their products. Only a true asshole would come into someone else's thread and advertise a cheap knock off copy of the product in question!

If I'm out of line with profanity here, then my apologies to the other forum-goers here.. but this needs to be said.

@mahiluana you can kindly go fuck yourself. Thanks.

well the width of the 3 board kits heat sink is 3 feet so thats no problem with 2 kitts in a 5x5 tent

Of course the DIY option of 2 kits is more light for the $$ than the fit and finished premade 550.
You could build a 550 DIY for a bit over 500.
