DIY with Quantum Boards

I want to start growing for the first time and was looking for a good setup. My tent is 3x3. Prob growing in coco, but not set on it yet.

Would 4 of the HLG QB132 work well for that space? I'm leaning towards the HLG-240H-C1750 for a driver. Planning to probably mount them on something rigged out of aluminum angle.

Does that seem reasonable? I've read a ton, but am hesitating on taking the plunge.
240s a bit weak for a 3x3, but if you mount two boards on a sheet of aluminium (spaced nicely apart) and use an xlg 150 you can run them 75w each , obviously x 2.
It would be similar price to just buying the hlg240 driver.

Giving you 300w

This is also an option. but the added coat of am aluminum sheet I feel is better spent on the 2-5 extra strips. Because 10 of them is the same price as 4 HLG QB132s

Thank you both for the advice. I'm checking out those Cutter strips now.
The ones I linked to are there most economical model and what most members here would point you to if you asked what color temp to go for. The linked strip is 48V 2' length in 3000K CCT 90CRI.
But they have oh so many more options. The last 2 numbers before "CR" in the part#, corresponds to the color temperature of the diodes used for that strip.
Browse Away:

One thing is for certain, with the QB132s, you'd get a total of 528 diodes spaced out on all 4 boards. If you used even 12, let alone 15 of these strips, you'll have 1,344 because each one has 112. So 1,680 with 15. More than TRIPLE the amount.

would like to add to cutter atm their shipping is not the best so just a warning on the shipping if your in the states its just more cost effective to get strips from arrow but those cutters work well just don't break the solder joint on the cutters. this is in my opinion at least because when I've ordered from arrow I've been super happy with them idk might be because I get my strips in less than 3 days. you can go any way you want its just better to run more strips in general but those cutters for that much money a a strip I just wouldn't do it. bongsmilie :peace: bongsmilie

$10 a strip for 112 LEDs on a 2' PCB? What's comparable at arrow for that price?
Wasn't your hold up on just your UV strips?

There's not 112 LEDs on the bxebs though. And they only put out 2400 lumens and the cutters put out 4500 at 500mA and 9000 at 1amp. So... Bxebs are a dollar less and put out 1/4 the light. Cutters strip blows them away, brother.
idk man my bxebs got 112 leds idk what u on about

I didn't look at the data sheet, just from the pic and how far their spaced I didn't think they did. But that just further establishes my point. Same amount of diodes for 1/4 the output. Cutters are a better value by far. If shipping is worrisome, just contact Mark @welight and ask him for a realistic time frame for delivery @Radagast the Brownthumbed
thing is customs and how much cutter charges you for shipping yea if u can get ahold of mark that's a big if sent him 2 emails already asking for a replacement strip nothing. id rather pay half the money for more coverage also when their normal priced their about 5 bucks a pop so you can double up the strips. good luck getting your stuff shipped tho especially now. bongsmilie

what kind of wire do I need for my qbs? red green black?
Those colors make everything easier to keep things in order and coding with colors ensures future maintenance, if ever needed, is a breeze. Its not necessary by any means, but can be very helpful.
What IS necessary is no smaller than 18awv thickness wire. Solid Core is much more sturdy for poke in connections and usually what's reccomended. Stranded wire will work as well but if using on a connector will require tinning.(twisting the end and flowing solder into it to stiffen it) Meanwell drivers leads usually come with stranded wire that's been tinned for example.

So what's up with the anti HLG comment in your sig? Personally, the idiot who posted that is: A. full of shit and B. Too stupid to be growing. I don't see the value is using such a comment. Or is it meant to be funny???
Just meant to be funny why would someone drop that money on leds and not know how to use them ?
