DIY with Quantum Boards

Got my boards in today, all wired up and put to work! Took a little over a week from clicking Order to in the tent, shipped to Atlantic Canada.

Currently the boards are dimmed all the way down as they're on fresh seedlings. This should be a fun grow. Growing 2 Ghost Train Haze, 5 high CBD Freedom Dream, and 3 White Cookies.

The Mars 600 tent will be growing the next round of seedlings, clones and vegetables as well... at least until I get a rack and 3 QB40s!

This is 65gal pot under the HLG-600H kit sold by growerslight.
Top 2 plants have a leaf tip curl going on. I think it may be due to a nitrogen overload.. I think.
Other than that... they look happy to me.

How far from light to canopy, what size tent, and do you have the lights turned all the way up?

So we're now 420 pages into this thread ... quantum boards are totally new to me (and no doubt a lot of others seeing as theyre a 2017 thing)... I'd love to hear the PROS and CONS of quantum boards?, for those of us who haven't had the chance to read through all 420 pages :) thankyou! and we thank you for being the first to try them for the rest of us :)
pros are less heat less power draw more light/ photon energy. Better coverage of the canopy. It seems like my plants are more vigorous, more woody it seems like they might be a day or 2 ahead of time. Cons: you can turn the light toooo bright of course if you added co2 I guess that could be a pro. You have to figure out what to do with your old lights. Hmm the plants seem to drink/ eat more which makes cost of nutrients go up again this could be a positive as well. Initial cost maybe. Basically the cons are hard to think of, and the pros are numerous!

Pros :

Direct replacement of lights
Ready to run
Dimmable with Type B drivers and linear pot
Series wiring or Parallel ( or combo of both )
Infinite amount of layout designs
Can be added to pre-existing COB rigs
Better light footprint and overlap
Always being upgraded by HLG - using latest bin offerings
Quantum " sets " are VF matched ( 2 or more )
Customizable
Multiple driver choices - meanwell
High efficiency at even lower power power settings
No more BLURPLE
No more buying bulbs (HPS / MH )
No excessive heat issues
They DO NOT NEED to be driven hard for max results ....
Optic Ready design ( optional )
Can be configured for both Open and Closed grow setups
Will work in ANY cabinet , stealth or tent grow
Molex connectors for easy wiring
Can be used with or without heatsinks ( depending on power use )
Lightweight compared to large hoods and tubes
Nominal cooling requirements - simple fan across slates will work
DIY best friend - NO TIM REQUIRED
Can be used on seedlings / clones and new growth without changing lights
Even canopy penetration

On and on........

CONS :

You have to shitcan old light systems ( hid )
They sell out faster than concert tickets ....
You WILL BUY MORE AND MORE .... Trust me I know ( *wink wink )
They will bleach if you are careless
CALMAG will be a necessary evil as plants will not transpire as much as HPS

Side note : These boards are OFTEN COPIED and cloned overseas , but you run the risk of substandard and often mis labeled components instead of the original . They swap in less effective 5630s or whatever non descript LEDs. With HLG you are guaranteed to get what you pay for - there are certain troll monkeys that will throw shade but don't let that confuse you .... Yes you CAN construct from scratch but the Quantums are built and tested so you don't have to.

Bottom line :
You will be hard pressed to find an easier way to replace aging lights .
No learning curve needed ... These work best WITHOUT treating them like you would with HPS - believe it or not 550w will produce like 1000w rig.
There is no reason to build a 900w rig for say a 3x3 or 4x4 ...
Even their 260w / or XL will kill it in most common 3x3 sizes ....
Plus you can add more for larger spaces .... Fucking simple.
Look at the grows listed here and on HLG Instagram....
You will not find many makers out there that will take customer service to the level as @robincnn and @Stephenj37826 does.

Well the only con isnt really a con, except this time of year. Im about 7 weeks into veg and have been running a space heater for 6 of them. These lights run so cool i had to add heat, i even added a 65w cfl just for its heat. Im thinking i need to add some cobs as id rather be making lumens than just btus.

That said, im curious about distance to clones/seedlings with the HLG 40. I have a 26" long shelf i use to clone and germinate. The 40 looks perfect for it but I don't know how high above I would have to put it.

Have a good weekend my green bros ....

Had to load a twisty and grab some beer for a visit to ol mother in laws pad - she thinks I smoke clove cigarettes ( which are disgusting ) and she drinks shit beer ( so some ales are coming with me ).

It's one of those " women blab fest " so I will just puff and drink .....

Clover and beans for nitrogen purposes. They release N back into soil when chopped and dropped. Marigold flowers are known to encourage nearby plants to increase resin production. I'll be throwing some basil seeds in there to deter bad mites.

I think too little heat in winter is a better problem than too much heat in summer.
Both can be reduced with good insulation. Adding heat should be cheaper than cooling air by a similar amount.

Those plastic screwdrivers you get with cheap pH pens are best for the trimpots.

Half way through chop and I thought I better post a pic while I some are still in the land of the living.
If all estimates are correct going on my usual wet-dry weight ratio I might just be hitting 1.6 GPW with this run.
Will be another PB for me and the quantum boards..... Gotta love HLG!
Will let all know final weight once dried and cured. Will be over 2lb from 2x 260w kits in that half of my 8x4 flower tent regardless.

Last pic is four blue dream on the COB side.
All others are part of one of the two I have left to still chop. (incredible bulk)
