DIY with Quantum Boards

Looks great. HLG-80H-C700 runs at about 85 watts by default. I was able to adjust the driver with a screw driver and run it 45-95 watts.
Thanks I haven't adjusted yet I might lower it a little if heat becomes an issue but after being on for 20 min it was still cool to the touch. I didn't even have to buy screwes for this build just 2 wago connectors and about a foot of wire I cant wait to throw some plants under it.

@Stephenj37826 these boards look amazing. Do you know if anyone has grown herbs and other normie plants with them? I'm looking at building me a little garden on a spare kitchen bench, about 2ft deep, 4ft wide and 3 ft tall. for all kind of plants, and seedlings waiting to go into the other rooms. reading it sounds like 2 boards would do the trick, but I'm not sure about current. @700mA 75w each ought to do it, don't you think? does dimming meanwells decrease lifespan of drivers? am I correct when I think that dimming them would increase lm/w?

I've read a lot, have built a cxb3590 12 cob light successfully, and I do think I know the answers, but it's nice to have it confirmed.

Yeah, is the optics necessary? and is that something you plan on stocking? I just love one stop shopping lol. thanks for all the good info you guys spread.

Update on my DIY BUILD :

Mars Conversion - series 600 panel ( thanks @robincnn and @Growmau5 for ideas )

Its gonna be a GREEN christmas !
Running panel at 18" -
( i added Northern Grow sticker to case as a little " thank you " )
On board fans should this little build very cool ... I have been powered up for 3 hours and no problems.

I ordered a HLG-80H-700A LED Driver to change out the driver im currently using . I ordered this panel BEFORE i found out about " KIT " which is sold out ... God damn it.
:wall:

I was planning to throw a timbergrowlight 3x3 FRAMEWORK in here but may rethink that and look into a 4 panel setup using QBs. @robincnn ( 3500k on the radar ????? )

3000k in these is very similar to 3500k Cree.

Dimming does no harm the drivers and yes as you dim they get more efficient. Most meanwell drivers don't lose efficiency until under 50%. Some stay about the same all the way down to 30%. See data sheets for the particular driver you are considering.

2 boards @ 150 watts would do really well in that area for your purpose.

I think TTystkk said he thought his $699 light could take on a 1000 HPS or even a DE 1150/1215 HPS. Will you be selling these on your we site? Thanks.
That's not quite what I said;

First, I'm running two of the 4 board fixtures, each pulling 320W (plus driver) each, for a total of 640W at system level, 670W at the wall.

Second, I said these would be serious competition for a DE, I'm not sure they'd win. I think it will be close and I'm now testing that hypothesis. Thread coming up today.

Third, I have no earthly idea how much HLG wants to charge for these fixtures, so let's just ask the man who knows; @Stephenj37826

These have barely hit the market, there are a couple grows in progress. Mine I decided will go in the tent with my Mod420 light. Will be interesting balancing the light output, but It doesn't matter all that much to me, I just want PHOTONS! in there lol, and boy, is this going to add some! I'll post pics when its all set up. Hoping the transplant and better light helps momma duck starting looking better. She's greened back up on top since the transplant into the auto pot

Think I may yank the lenses on the MOD420 also, I don't like how hot they get. Might also have someone solder wires to the chips. Then I'll mount them directly, then I can use reflectors instead.

Would this work with a 4 panel build ?
Originally gonna go in a COB build but NOW thinking of 4 QB setup. I pulled from frame i constructed and think wanted to see if its an option.

I also have the dimming pots. ( switches will be another project )
What should i expect from this for a project ? And will 4 panels be from same batch ??

Buds how many watts are you running that one board at ? What's the size of your grow area ?

I plan on at least getting my deck veggies started as well as some cloning of bushes and flowers in my grow area. Right now one half assed harvest of smoke would last me half a year in meds lol. So I'm going to utilize that down time for other types of growing. I used to do a little years ago but the power consumption was killing me, Not anymore =0)

Its not enough for my space , but am looking more at plants response to it.
It is running at 50 watt for now ( unless i change up the driver ) 100v DC / 550ma . It should be a much better and efficient ( than original blurple panel led ). According to chart , should be at or around 184 lm/watt. Matter of fact .... If i am in the SWEET SPOT between Watts and Efficiency , i may just leave the driver i am using.

I am planning a larger build ( 4 panel ) to cover a 3x3 , and was actually going to pull the trigger on a TIMBERGROWLIGHT 3x3 framework light with 300w citizens .... But am wondering if i build a 4 panel myself will it perform as well or near a COB STYLE light.

I like where this light industry is going with DIY and prebuilt ready to run lights. Either way i guess it would be a good choice as it seems both are upscalable.

The mars conversion is probably going to outperform the original mars led panel by far , but may use this light in a supplemental matter later. So that is the reason for the build. It had a multiple led failures and found @Growmau5 vid on a COB conversion which is why i gutted the panel .... then i stumbled across QB. it fit perfectly and No Chunky heatsinks or COB holders , paste or other shit. It literally is a full fledge upgrade to any chinese shit panel. I have another Series 600 ( works fine ) that i am going to toss on craiglist and it will be outta here.

This is definitely a better light source as i have noticed less shadowing / better penetration to lower plant areas. Blurple lights had much more pronounced dark areas within plants.

Whee is everyone getting these scrap Blurples to upgrade?
I want to get a few broken lights to try this on also for fun and to see how I like the panels

I dont even need drivers and fan just the case lol
Northern grow lights had some cases for sale from their cob lights idk how well a QB would fit them. You could probably call dorm grow or another crappy led company an get them to sell you some cases I bet light sales have gone down substantially for them haha
