DIY with Quantum Boards

So, is 8x QB304 running at ~900w overkill for a 5x5? if I upgrade a couple heatsinks I could push them up past 1200w and grow plants on Mars. :D
Will you need that much? No. Will it work? Yes, but you need to be ready for your plants to be hungry as hell and growing like mad. Keep temps and RH on point. At that intensity things can go wrong fast.

I can't seem to get mine over 300w without the plants showing some serious stress in a 3x3 tent with 4 boards. Two different strains so far showing about the same limit. Two sepperate tents with 2 sepperate rigs, one is 4x 300k and one is 4x 3500k. I have to check hanging distance but it's probably around 18-20".

Temps around 76-78*, leaves still get real crispy/sun burnt above 300w in my 3x3's.

Yep...in a few weeks ill be starting a journal, SOG in a 3x3 under two QBs. With so many turning their panels down I'm expecting great results!

Robin or Stephen, my accessories kit came with a 6-15P power cord instead of the 5-15P. This is probably a stupid question, but would any standard dishwasher power cord (5-15P) suffice? I have a 16/3 dishwasher cord that I could use.

There seems to be a lot of " HID LIGHT " thinking when building rigs for set spaces.
It makes ZERO SENSE to outfit tents with 900 w rigs ... The efficiency of the boards design trumps ( hate that fucking word but ... ) building mega rigs. For enclosed tent grows there is better results with smaller builds as the reflective nature of multipoint lights will grow your plants better.

@ttystikk brought up the chart that best shows there is a range or plateau were high PPF brings less desirable results. The Quantums are far more efficient than the old bulb way of thinking. Growers have grown full plants with one board ( me ) with a lousy 50W driver in a 3x3 ....... use HLG recommendations for coverage and you will be golden.
I see no reason trying to shoehorn a 550 rig into a tent. A balance of power / efficiency and eviromental temps is the key.

Some on here are complaining about temps ..... Which is crazy ... If you dim down the power slightly , the boards ACTUALLY get more efficient. These are NO WAY THE SAME AS HID.

You will get great PPF measure at around 18" from canopy. , if you allow adequate airflow within tent , the tge light penetration will push thru plant. A properly lit tent will have very little shadow areas. No movers needed , no spinning fucking plants or much adjusting.

My rigs have a static height that NEVER CHANGES ... I have Rachet ropes but I don't use them. I have over a 20" of ceiling space in each tent for cooling and airflow , I check for a proper negative pressure in tent and let it go. For " OPEN SPACE " growing is where large light rigs will shine with a larger footprint and optics. I grow with around 300w on any one rig ( and am able to go higher but no need ) I let plants tell me where they are comfortable- if I get praying or " horizontal leaf plane " then I leave it.

Me thinks people like taco and crispy leaves to show they got the juice , lol

You will find also that plants will grow more uniformly from corner to corner within tents as there is really no more " hot spotting " . With a little LST / Supercrop/ etc. you will find tops grow together without much effort.

Thats a great theory but in my experience your temps won't get high enough with really low wattage builds

Are you running them at max current? 300w should get some decent growth I wouldn't do any less than that
I've been running at about 180w, with good results.

IDK man my temps run 78-85f with 65%RH. Happy plants despite PH issues.P1030061.JPG P1030069.JPG

Well .... It's been hotter than satan's asshole out west with record temps and dry ass humidity. My neck of the woods is pushing 101° with high temps all week , so I had to give some insight on the ol Quantums from the trenches.

Still pushing only fans and rig temps are passable .... 86-88ish . I did notice that I will have to to cut the bloom fertilizer down a little ( down curl ) so water only today and the next dry time.

Entering week 5 today ... Some stem flop beginning so I will tie up a little as time tells.

I hate Cali heat but with Quantums I can still grow during summer without shutting down.
