Diy or pre built EBB n Gro bucket system?

Ahh lol fair enough. Yea i have a shop vac and a mop just in case. Both have been dry since i started.. actually i did over fill my drum a little bit once but that was my fault. Not enough to vacuum tho and no fault of the system. I guess you can call it luck. Knock on wood! Im all about doing things myself and so far ive had great luck. I build my own 4 and 8 light hubs with 220v relays as well and wire them up properly! Never burned my crib down lol but i wont talk about making those since high voltages are deadly. I do alot of electrical so the hard stuff comes second nature to me.
 
Very nice looking set up. looking at your pricing you ended up with $270 then if you get a 55 gallon reservoir drum style which i recommend looking online home depot is $70 which brings the total to $340 and correct tooling will be an additional if you are missing some tools. I paid $430 for my set up out of the box ready to go with a warranty on the controller. the controller has a delay built in as well to where the water keeps flowing after the float switch has tripped for 5 seconds which is awesome on there end. if you dont have hole saws alone to make the holes thats a pretty penny. also you used 1/2" hose which i highly recommend not using its why the CAP EBB and FLOW system is so flawed (slow flow and with a big root mass they clog like crazy. They also use a shitty control bucket that failed a few times with me using the same float switches you used. the flo n gro system comes with 3/4" hose and fittings so way more improvement on flow and much better float switches. With all that said we are pretty damn close to the same price on the setups.

I Dont use 1/2 i use 3/4 but i do use half between the rez and the controller bucket. You wont see a difference filling the system with a 3/4 inch line. The buckets all have 3/4" hose because gravity allows the water to flow quicker. Also 55 gallon drums wont cost you more then 50 for a brand new one. Try a local htg supply if you have one close. I paid 50 for mine with the lid and metal strap. Also as long as the floats work and you have hysterosis during the cycle youll be 100%

Also im pretty sure you know people with a hole saw set and some drill bits. I do however prefer a forstner bit for buckets not a hole saw. Slow n steady will make a perfect hole with no burring. My grommets never leak when im patient with the drill. If u cant find em you could always buy em there not that much. I however cant seem to get away from tools. Everywhere i look ive got tools laying all over but i guess to each there own. Also the 55 gallon rez at home depot is a rubbermade rectangle tote with the yellow lid not a drum style rez. I threw it out there because it would deff. Work

Shit i cant find any good ebb n flow systems locally for less then 600 and there all duel timer setups all crap. I decided to make mine because i didnt wanna have to have a system like that delivered. I live in the city and neighbors are always watching lol
 
Did you use the Aquahub DIY kit for the float timers? I was thinking of using it to create a 4x8 ebb and flow clone tray for 1.5 x 1.5 inch rockwool cubes

NOpe i built everything from scratch. The aqua hub one isnt a bad design but i did the actual floats a bit different. Good luck on the clone tray btw i always wanted to do one myself.
 
Your going to do the tray style ebb n flow you really only need a 15 minute interval timer or a digital one. Have your overflow set at the height you want and wheb it turns off the fill piece will basically drain it all back into the rez. No need for a bucket like this
 
IVe done a rockwool tray and just built it out of plywood that i spray adhesived some husky bags over and 2x6 for walls. Lol then the two fittings from the hydro store
 
Thats what I figured that we could jst flood from the rez into the tray then drain it back. Was going to stack them on metal shelf racks 2 high just have automated clone racks. But the husky and plywood design sounds like the winner for cost lol
 
Yea i was a lot younger when i did it lol back when i had good ideas. If your doing clones you could just do a 2x4 frame and plywood for the bottom. you could either do rows if you dont wanna stack em or you could stack them. Youll need a seperate pump for each one you flood tho. Then just get the timings right. The hardest challenge was cutting the plastic where the hole is. Just start in the middle of the hole with the knife and make an x. Dont try to cut a circle out of the plastic. It might leak that way.
 
IF your trying to avoid the controller i would go with a different setup. .. after all why would you want to remove the controller from the system if it acts as the brain?
 
Im using the flo n gro bucket system and love it. very well built and controller is very nice as well. i feel like diy builds always look cheaper on paper, but when it comes to building you will always buy more than you thought and thats why i went prebuilt
I spent less thanv $100 minus the chiller.

This is a 9 site but it's been brought down to a 6 again
