DIY Light stand

I'm in a situation where I don't want to permanently bolt anything to my ceiling, so I'm wanting to build a stand for my 400w HPS. I'm contemplating some sort of stand that is similar to those you see over flood tables, etc. made out of pvc. I was thinking several 2x4's or maybe PVC. I have a cool tube and ventilation, so I'm thinking based on the proximity between the light and drywall/wood I've had in set ups before, I'll be fine using the wood? Would there be a fire danger if I had the right spacing and ventilation? Would it be any different using pvc? Any help or advice from someone that's done something similar is appreciated.
Thanks

sounds like a lot of work to avoid a small hole used for an eyehook. patching it afterwards would be easy.
I dont see a problem w/ wood or PVC as long as the bulb is a few inches away.
what about holes in the wall? a 2x4 between studs w/ a hole in it on each end w/ a metal pole between them like a clothes bar?

Go to home depot or lowe's and getting plumbing piping. Plumbing piping should run you $50-$70 for a stand made of 1/2 inch piping. It will hold serious weight
