Nice! I love strip lights for the even distribution. Not sure it matters much but when I built I put more space between the inner two rails and reduced the spacing between rails by 1/3 each time as I went out toward the edges to even put the intensity.
 
yeah I think the ideal way to get the spacing right would be to use a PAR meter.... your aquarium place might rent them out if they do planted tanks...
Just spacing them out even does OK. I think you'd get a tiny bit more square footage out of the correct spacing though.
 
I have been wanting to build my own light but have been unsuccessful in finding big enough heat sinks. Anyone have links? Thanks ahead of time
 
Not sure. Inreally dont need lights ive got some really nice ones but I need a hobby lol. I can find all the other things bthat I need but heat sink that I can find is like 60mmx300mm. Im looking for something around 12"×24"-30".
What are you mounting to a heat sink of that size?
