Let me show you the Guod-Stardustsailor prototypes ...

(They are DIY by me ,but Guod really has done most of the "behind the scene " work ...
His help & knowledge are more than precious ! )

yes Rth js 20°C/W but they are made to be hot, and max junction temp 150°C

and it is better to run them at low current, max 400mA, 155% flux at 700mA VS 170% flux at 700mA for a WW oslon

you're welcome SDS! very nice protos! congrats to you and to Guod!

i love the panel AM meter on the lamp ;-), i did the same thing one many protos

now let's see them in action!! the only comment I will make is that this kind of lamp will create an hot spot, personnaly i perfer many smaller engines distributed along the grow area

Also the hyper red T2 is now sold as standard lowest bin and not T1 anymore ...about time they are doing it.. Still the rebels are available at better radiant flux.
But.. Osrams hyper reds are nice with their large band (peaking at 645nm)

Frustrating to be about to put together a panel with SSL's, knowing there is already a new version out that i can't buy...

edit: I see they have single units of EC on RSonline, have you seen CC?

That is their biggest advantage over the rest "hyper-deep reds " of other brands ....

They must already be available - The lead time has been 5 weeks for ages - i guess they are just not going to be held in stock by any of the major retailers... :/

If i was using ssl 80 and not 150, i would almost think it was worth buying a roll, and reselling in smaller chunks. Doubt many other people are using the wide angle SSLs though

On that subject, what are you guys honest opinions about my plan to use SSL 150?

To remind you, the reason for it is to make use of a huge heatsink, that has a small footprint... I want to cover more than would be possible with the 80's.

Well.. Given I work with 170° golden dragons finely..
You can def run them very close to the plants
They blend better with other colours...

It's down to personal preference many would disagree and prefer narrower °

-Then yes ,my guess ,is that the 150's will do the job ..
But :

-Panel has to be closer to plants ..
-Reflective material surrounding the grow space ,is a must ..
-Maybe you'll have to use more leds ....


I would like the NW oslons in my new panel to be 150's ...
Better dispersion of blue wls ....
"Softer blue touch " to plants ..
And not a " blue direct punch " ,given by the SSL 80's...

I think it is just a preference / decision ,that should be taken ,while taking into account - mainly- the grow space area/volume ...

But ,basically ,what you state ,is absolutely true ...

Surface of grow space * height of grow space = volume of grow space ...

If height is a problem ,then going wide angle lens ,is probably the best idea ,in order to cover as much surface as possible ...
Plus ,that light will "blend" much better ,at close distance ,'exiting' the leds ....

But for larger grow spaces ,narrow angle leds offer "concentrated" light cones ,without much of light power ,being "wasted " sideways ...

( At larger grow spaces ,reflected light from enclosing reflecting walls (if any ) ,
is more of a waste ,indeed...
While in small / tight grow spaces ,side-wall reflected light is still used fine by plant(s) ,without severe losses from reflection/distance ...)

totally agree with SDS

another way to do it would be to use SSL150s at the center of the lamp and SSLs80 at the sides
