DIY LED---Cheaper?

The claims made by the LED companies are preposterous at best. A 120 watt LED will cover maybe 2-3 square feet.
And it is not comparable to a 600 watt HID. Maybe a 150 watt HID. Because no cooling is necessary. I have the 90
watt version, supposedly it is supposed to cover a 5 X 5 area. , and is equal to a 400 watt HID. I can't see it covering
more than a 20" X 20" area. I bought it from a friend of 20+ years, and he got it from HTG. He did one seed to harvest
with it, and got some decent buds, and a decent yield. Better than I thought he would. He bought a bigger LED, two
300 watt units.

I just got off the phone with Gotham Hydroponics, and bought their 240 watt Blackstar LED. $270 shipped. $19 off of
the listed price, and free shipping, no tax. The guy said to me it will cover about 4 to 6 square feet. It is the best selling
LED on Ebay right now.

post some pics of the saltwater to if you don't mind and if you didn't have to water proof over that you wont have to worry about it in your room ... unless you water with a hose maybe
i have a small 200L tank in my garage and a bunch of my chisels and files on a shelf near by have begun to rust from the salt water in the area.

also jozikins remember some people enjoy the challenges of building something themselves
i know i would go mad if i didnt have my lil project ...probably get my assignments done a lot quicker tho wish my upcoming presentation was on leds LOL
I suppose you are right. But I would like to see some DIY LED nug porn, if you guys don't mind.

Can't help you there. I wouldn't try to flower under 25w of leds that i built. Nor would i spend the money again to make another 96 led light just for flowering (my fishtank light was $$$) but the fact that i wont have to replace bulbs every year is awesome (my old metal halide bulbs needed replacing every 8 months on my tank).

Hattrick, if you are looking to save money then I suggest just getting an HPS / cooltube / good fan. for the cost to build a 48-96 3w cree led light, you could build an ENTIRE stealth cab from scratch with a 250w or 400w hps / cooltube/ s&p vent fans, and a bunch of other stuff needed.

building an led light won't be super cheap (good components cost money). i did it cause i thought it would be fun, and my brain likes learning new things....
