I am a big fan of not creating more heat than you need, not to mention more room....firing up a large heat mat to pop a few beans blows. Those small reptile mats don't last very long. I just put together a heat mat from materials that are made by flexwatt. The "tape" comes in 11, 4, 6, 3, width and you can make it as long as you need. You buy the clips and if your like me you never throw cords away. They can be bought on Ebay, but if you want the best price go to a reptile supply company called the Bean Farm. For just over $20 I made a 11" and a 6" wide heat mat...that included 2 day shipping. Rolled up they take next to no space. If you think that they wont last long because they are flimsy looking you wrong....I will bet my last dollar that my heat mat that I have had for the last 5 years (factory made in the same way) will out last my bulky Hydrofarm mat that is only 2 years old.

I put the mats on a watt meter and they are as advertised....I don't know if I will buy the plastic covers for the connectors again as they are not sealed off. Some Gorilla tape will work.
