If you can get dry ice it's quick and easy with no mess. Takes 10 minutes and you're done. You can press it if you want.
I use 2 buckets. One has the bottom cut out and replaced with 100 micron screen. That sits inside another identical bucket leaving about 3-4 inches between the screen and the bottom of the other bucket. I just put the broken down dry weed I'm going to use in the freezer a couple hours before I process it. Then dump into the screened bucket while it's in the second bucket and put broken up dry ice inside and cover with a lid for a few minutes and then start shaking. After about 10 seconds all the best stuff is in the bottom bucket. There is still more that is really good but if you process for too long you'll start getting plant matter through the screens which will start to turn it green.
Some shake over a mirror or table but I prefer to keep it all contained in buckets.
How much you get depends on how clean you want it to be. I probably waste a bunch that others would keep but I only want the trichomes and absolutely no green plant material even if I lose some of the good stuff. And nothing really ends up going to waste. I throw what's left into one of my buckets of cannabis JLF that will then be used to fertilize more plants. And the cycle continues. The waste from the cannabis I harvest today will be used to feed the cannabis I grow tomorrow.
I have thought about trying to contain it in a bucket some way but I like the table method. I can shake it and going by the color I stop when it gets even the slightest tinge of green. I have a 2x4 aluminum press and I cut out two pieces of parchment paper to cover the top and bottom to avoid sticking. After I fill my press I put tape to hold in place. I have one of those rice filled neck injury things that I put into the microwave until hot then put the press in that to get hot. After that I use a larger vice to smash it and tap the handle past hand tight with a hammer. I use a flooring sample I got from Home Depot to create a barrier between my press and my vice so it doesn’t get marked up. Maybe next time I’ll do a step by step with pics on a thread to see what others are doing and share what works for me. I gotta tell you man that just using the 100 micron screen is throwing away a ton of goodies. Using that 73 mic I only got like 6-7 grams but then I swapped out to the 220 and was able to get almost 18 more which made this very soft pliable hash bar.
