DIY DWC would this work?

so ive been looking at some diy dwc systems so i can experiment with a small plant to maybe make the change from soil to hydro.

so as of right now i have a party cup with slits hopefully suitable to get air and water the the roots?

ive yet to installl the airstones and pump but will the cup work?

your gonna want to duct tape the sides so no light can get through, I would put rubber bands around the cup to help it hold its shape.
Ghetto shit right there, but it will work.

i knew id forget to include something! i plan to cover the outside cause i dont wanna get any algae! what size plant could i grow with this small container? im not expecting i regular size plant but just curious?

first ditch the soap container and use something that didnt have chemicals in it and your holes only need to be the size of a pen or 3/16-1/4 in diameter better yet go buy a 3" net pot for 1$ and like a large cosco size folgers coffee can, shit you could set up a real diy dwc for less then $40 with hydroton included, the bigger the bucket res the better your results will be

Useless for DWC setup. get a black or dark 5gal rubbermaid, .99 cents + top .15 cents some fish pump waterfall.. or airstone im guessing. & get creative. I would personally go hard or go home with Hydro setups. Test out on soil, Hydro will dissapoint you in long run if you dont have a reliable setup or the proper nutes.

think about it.. IF YOUR PLANT FILLED THAT BOX with ROOTS.. Your plant could be like a foot tall WEIGHING MUCH MORE THAN THAT CONTAINER.. thus you'd BE REFILLING THE RES. DAILY which will fk your nutes and ph. and your plant will be SUPER TOP HEAVY falling over when your not home. View attachment 1262495 18 gal res. Hydro 5th week. :) Hydro is Beast.

Do what jesus would do and duct tape those sides. Otherwise you will be breeding algae like someone trying to make bio diesel.

I've popped an RX bottle into the lid of a rubbermaid pitcher to make a DWC, it works wonderfully. However I suggest re-doing that cup. Making multiple smaller holes so that it can have some support. Or just rubberband it up like mentioned before. Best of luck

ive already said i need to tape the container up. im looking to try this on a small scale thus why i dont have a bigger container. im thinking of growing a plants thats vegged for a short amount of time so it will stay small so i can manage it.

the soap container didnt have chemicals in it directly, it had small plastic pouches holding liquid. kinda like a big gel tab.

i have plants in soil so yield and shit isnt important. im not looking to start a drug empire with this, just learning!

You should stick with soil until you can do a real setup in my opinion.

A 1 gallon pot would yield way better than that thing.


Edit: If you're just trying to learn I still recommend purchasing a Rubbermaid.

uhm,. Well. if you can afford a new cup ^^ get one and put holes in it, for support of your medium. Clone or Seedling? What kinda light? You do know lighting schedules should not be tampered so a timer would be must for a Successful grow. Due to electricity running to your setup, you cant use SUN power i dont think =/ so some $$$ goes into the basics of keeping it alive.

And using indoor lights such as home depots grow lights 65-75w will only produce spindly plants & take up alot of outlets. :D 1-2 600w Digital Ballasts all you need. Can do a single Grow cycle, or with 2 and a tent can do the popular 2 cycle veg/flower. I personally prefer to do 1 stage with 2 lights. the little extra time between harvests is ok, cause i feel my yields are increased with 2 lights.

i dont plan to use a plastic cup and little box to grow. i was checking if i have the method behind a dwc grow right.

The plants i have in soil are seeds but if i did a dwc grow id like to use clones. my lighting set-up is around 100w of CFL'S for seedling stage then 400w M/H&HPS for beg and flower in a 1x1x2m grow tent.

Nice. Well yes you have the basics then, uhm.. . imo a hydro setup takes more space than soil pots. so in reality if you just put 1 5gal. res DWC sutup in their, with enough height space you could get better even more smoke off that 1 plant than 2-4 small pots.

im thinking of just putting a bigger setup together and throwing one of these MK seeds in there seeing as master kush is pretty tough plant and takes alot of abuse.

Yea, I think hydro is more exciting and fun when you get a decent setup. Your plants grow MUCH faster, mine moved about an inch daily for a week once. Easier to train imo, LST and topping. Tho i dont top due to wanting 1 cola indicas. Yea Indica is the way to go, i messed up this grow lol.. used 3 sativas with 1 indica.. the indica will be harvested late to make the sativas right.

Niice., How old are they. Mine are on 6th week today. Got White Russian, Heavy Duty Fruity (HDF) and 2 others i forgot lol. I grew in soil beginning of last year but harvested too early. I plan on doing another outdoor this new year when season comes.. its free bud. No $$$ for electricity ! :) im smoking Special Reserve OG now. :) from clinic. Southern Cali Baby
