DIY dehumidifier chiller

Howdy all! I’ve been playing around with this chiller I’ve made, and I thought someone else may have a need for this as well. The dehu was a $15 goodwill special 70 pint hisense. I chose this unit for its auto on feature meaning it will turn on when plugged up or power is restored.

Then you CAREFULLY bend the front radiator/cooling core away from the unit. 304583E0-B548-44EF-AF6E-15D270276319.jpeg
I used kitty litter buckets because they have that nice lid with the hinge, and my kitties fav litter comes with a black lid. Some are grey or red and they let more light through. I simply cut a slit in the side wide enough for the copper pipe to fit that would let the condenser thingy sit all the way down in to the bottom.
I sourced this stainless worm at the local bargain hunt, it was in a home brewers Johnny keg or jockey box or something like that. It was a mini igloo lunch box cooler with this worm coiled into it and you would fill the cooler with ice, and pump beer through it to cool. So I stick that in the bucket with the condenser and water and run both lines into my res/bucket where the pump and temp sensor is. D53CCDE5-CF4A-453D-A805-620BE46458C5.jpeg
The pump pumps the nutrient solution from the res through the coil and returning back to the bucket/res.

Now to the temp controller. I chose the inkbird itc1000. It’s the diy’ers dream! And cheap to boot! I wire mine to an outlet with the side tab broken so the inkbird can switch between hot and cold. F48951AA-FADE-454A-ADD7-00646F9252FD.jpeg

Plug your dehu/chilly thing up to this bad boi and get to coolin! I’ll admit, the wiring can be intimidating at first but remember that the side with the tab you ARENT gonna break is the one that will have 1 input. The one that you WILL break the tab off of will be your split for the hot/cold. You can adjust the delay time for the unit to kick on, the temp difference, and Celsius or farenheight.
