Discussion! Plant in Pot or Ground?

Hello Fellow Growers,

I was wondering which is more beneficial:

(1) Planting in a bag/pot which gets placed in the ground

or

(2) Digging a hole, filling with proper fertilized soil and then planting the plant?

Keeping in mind: I want to be able to not water for 2-4 days and have the plants grow as big as possible.

Please explain why.

60cmx60cmx100cm deep should be a good start bigger than most pots out there and free !

the only time i would grow in a pot is if i thougfht the area might be comprimised.then i could move them.digging in the ground keeps the roots nice and cool,preventing shock,remember....the roots are the lifeline of the plant,if they suffer the whole plant suffers.Happy roots happy plant.roots can get very hot in a BLACK grow container,plus plants get rootbound which stunts growth.

Bigger trees in the ground, but pots can be moved around. Depends on your set up.
Chongsbuddy hit it on the head too about pots getting hot in the sun and rootbound.

BUT like I said, pots can be moved.

But i thought roots should be kept warm to help the plant grow.

Wouldn't it better to have a black pot for seedlings? Especially if your not using any heat pads

Regular hole all the way. The extra soil around will also help as a buffer to maintain pH. Potted containers have faster and more drastic potential hydrogen changes.

pots can become very beneficial if you need to move your plants, but the problem with them is not stealth because anyone can paint their pots and glue bark to it.... no problem. it maybe heat tho. if your plants are wilting a simple trick is to wrap your pots in burlap which keeps your pots cooler. and everytime you water just make sure to water the burlap and you are good to go on heat. plus if u dont want your plants to be noticed you can put them in trees at early stages in their life and as they grow, they look like tree growth from above. but if you can, plant in the ground.

I live in an area friggin infested with groundhogs. I haven't grown outside yet and I was thinking about getting one of those huge drywall compound buckets to bury (mostly) to try and keep the roots intact. I mean constricted roots are better than no roots at all right?

Its not the optimum situation but desperate times can call for desperate measures

I put 5 gal pots in a 6x3 metal cart on wheels. When I had visitors I could wheel it into the garage for stealth. This year I'm going for 10 gals. But last year's harvest was exactly what I hoped for. G-13 x Hash plant was my highest yield and most potent, but Juicy Fruit, Larry OG, and Master Kush were good too. I got hid with budworm but only lost a couple. Sour Diesal stunk up the whole neighborhood. I try the burlap this year. Thanks!

Good point chongsbuddy,
One time I had some plants in the ground, didn't water for about a month and came back to three fee of vertical growth and 2 feet of growth in width. But if you're nervous about the area and might want to move them, then put them in pots, but only as long as you can get back often to water.

What doe you guys think of this.I realy want to go with pots.What I was thinking was going with 55 gallon drums cut in two.and put them in a thick swamp the drum would not be in water.It would be high and dry .They would be hooked up to a 9volt water timer so they wont dry out.And it realy doesnt get realy hot.Its northern Maine.Its a organic grow.They would be 6 months old at harvest.

this sounds like a pretty good idea but make sure to keep it stealthy with tubs of that size.
