dirt/coco mix

i am looking into a new dirt mix, currently using sunshine super hydro mix and i feel the drainage sucks. im getting a lot of top roots because of the slow drainage.

i was thinking using coco, perlite and a small ratio of dirt.
i always used the gold coco in the past, don't know how the quality of that is.
any suggestions?

its slow draining, i water as they need it. i use 1.5 gallon pots. so i water every 2 days, sometimes everyday.
i just have a lot of water sitting on top of the soil and taking a while to go threw the pot.
i pretty much want to water like hydro. but i like the taste of dirt. so i want to keep dirt in the mix. just add something to make it airy.

Why not just use 100% coco mix there is no need for soil. I use coco fiber, just have to treat it like hydro when it comes to feeding it. You wil have to feed with every watering. Did you press the mix in the pot to tight? You should let your mix settle with watering.

Agreed on the 100 percent coco. But.... Not all brands are the same. I buy coco in bulk off ebay, and it happens to drain really well, better than canna. Canna is second best so far to the 2 other coco's I've run... Sun leaves coir block suck. I didn't even use it when I saw how backed up it got and how long it took to drain.

What it boiled down to was which one drained quicker... That was the best. Which is why I'm switching to flock rock wool.
